Super User scaleface Posted August 4, 2021 Super User Posted August 4, 2021 I used one today , for about 5 minutes . I just wasnt feeling it . Quote
river-rat Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Like Catt, I never stopped using the Silver Minnow. I've been throwing it since the mid-60's and still keep them in my boat. The areas I fish have heavy vegetation and it's a perfect compliment to a frog. 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted August 4, 2021 Super User Posted August 4, 2021 There was a survey done a few years back that asked the top 50 Pros which lure producers the most bites in & around vegetation. The overwhelming answer was the Johnson Silver Minnow. But there was a second question, which lure has the worst hookup ratio around vegetation. The overwhelming answer, the Johnson Silver Minnow. Like Glenn mentioned, SHARPEN THE HOOK! My second suggestion, have a follow up lure ready. When that bass misses, drop that rod on the deck & fire the follow up to the exact spot. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 4, 2021 Super User Posted August 4, 2021 Not to hijack this thread but check out the sale on Nemire Red Ripper 5/8 oz weedless spoons. Excellent sharp hook, silicone skirt and rattle. The silver and gold has work for me over a decade. Tom PS, the original Johnson spoons hooks are horrible. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 4, 2021 Super User Posted August 4, 2021 Thanks Glenn, good video. I dug my Johnson Silver Minnows out of the old tackle box. Now I need to shine them back up. Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 4, 2021 Super User Posted August 4, 2021 I learned to bass fishing using a Hawaiian Wiggler #3 weedless spoon. The action is the same except made to hold a flat strand rubber skirt like Glenn used in his video. The Johnson Silver Minnow was made for a white pork strip trailer that is outstanding action on this spoon. Good video Glenn, fun lures to use anywhere. Those who fish in Pike water be aware they love the Silver Minnow. Tom Quote
GTN-NY Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Tied a silver minnow on today. Made a couple casts off the dock to try it out. Man I love the way it comes through a weed bed. Quote

The 1/4 oz was tipped with a Uncle Josh Kickin Frog in yellow or Green Dots. The 1/2 oz was tipped with a Uncle Josh #11 Frog in the same colors. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted August 20, 2021 Global Moderator Posted August 20, 2021 I had about a 1 lb bass eat the silver minnow last night but it jumped off, I think I was trying to rip it out of the grass a little too hard. I was using 3/4 oz gold one with a chartreuse zoom spinner bait trailer on it (the only one I have left). I tried a chunk trailer that you would put on a jig and it zero action and even killed the action of the spoon. 2 Quote

If I recall he caught about half his fish on this bait with a pork trailer. From the lakes of northern Canada, to the gulf of Mexico, where ever fish are biting, that's where we're going to go. There's a lot of exciting country just waiting to be explored. So join us now in the great outdoor, world of Virgil Ward! Loved that show growing up!!! 2 Quote
