My grandfather and great-grandfather.  My great-grandfather had a minnow pond with a bamboo field growing next to it, so we'd often catch some minnows and make a pole out of bamboo before hitting the pond.  My grandfather had a boat, and he'd frequently take us out fishing in it whenever we visited.  It was their favorite pastimes and something they passed down to their kids and grandkids.  My father was more into water skiing.  So we also had a boat growing up, but my father didn't really know how to fish, so we mostly just ran around a lake, gave up, and fished back at the dock.

Probably my grandfather, but even that I’m not sure. I grew up spending my summers at our family camp on a lake and everyone bass fished there. I’ve been bass fishing since before I can even remember.

I grew up on Lake Bistineau in LA when I was young and my dad was the first person to teach me. Now a days I still fish a lot with my dad, but watch a lot of YouTube channels (i.e. jabob wheeler, DC fishing, etc…). I really love the technic shows that gives all the details.

I remember an older gentleman named Pete, I was just fishing for whatever I could catch in the "Mighty Niagara River", I saw him hauling in smallie after smallie, he came over after a while and showed me what he was using... A green "Mister Twister"( he gave me one along with a jighead) fished SLOW with a steady rod twitch. I had no luck, so he proceeded to tell me about current and where to cast. I began to catch fish and everytime I went there I would look for him to learn what I could. I'm that older Gentleman now, I try to share knowledge and even tackle with young or inexperienced anglers.  Needless to say, Pete left a lasting impression on me.

My dad and I fished with guides a good amount in various parts of the world, he is responsible for my love of the activity. Our location lent itself to bass fishing being the focus, and I've been at it especially hard since he passed in January. Caught two big ones the last two days on some of his gear, it's kind of like hanging out with him a bit.

Funny thing, I always outfished him when I was little. But our last fishing trip he limited out in an hour and I caught a single flounder ??

I was fortunate to have some great mentors teach me how to fish when I was a child.

I didn't get into bass fishing until I was about 30. I moved to VA, where striper fishing in the surf and fly fishing for trout are not really a thing. There was a small lake right next to my house. I bought a bag of senkos and dragged my kayak in there, and the rest is history haha. I didn't have anyone to teach me the ropes in bass fishing. I resorted to this forum and have learned a TON.  I also learned a lot from watching guys like Timmy Horton, Chad Hoover, and Iaconelli.

My dad got me into fishing with a simple cane pole, a hook and some crawlers for bluegills in the wastewater lagoon behind the water treatment plant he worked at. He wasn't a fisherman at all, but was a good man who knew the importance of giving me good childhood experiences. I also fished with my grandpa a few times, but he was mostly "over it" before I got old enough to ask him to go.

I guess I was introduced to bass fishing by In Fisherman magazine, along with show hosts like Bill Dance, Roland Martin and Hank Parker.

I remember my first forays bass fishing with Yum 4" flipping tubes and Lake Fork Craw tubes, probably suggestions from In Fisherman's resident bass guy, Steve Quinn.  It was probably a good thing that I really got started fishing slow, bottom oriented presentations, as we all know that is generally the norm in bass fishing.
