Hello all,

First I wanted to thank the members of this forum, in an earlier post I was struggling to catch my first real bass. After getting a new rod and reel and learning a lot from this forum and other places, I finally caught my first bass and went on to catch 6 more that same day. I was loving the new rod and reel and was trying a new pond and realized it was full of catfish. Long story short, I changed my rig and caught my two biggest fish ever, both channel catfish, tonight. Then I got a monster bite that instantly took my rod + reel from its holder 5 feet up over the pier's railing, and sent it flying into the water. I was mentally tortured as I watched my new loved combo get dragged away and under into the pond. I spent hours with a friend's rod trying to get it out by dragging a carolina rig with a treble hook along the bottom to see if I could snag the rod or the line. However, the water was dyed and had 0 visibility + it was pretty deep and has some pretty large snapping turtles so I don't think a swimming mission would work either. But basically, unless I go back to the pond tomorrow and see the rod washed to the bank, I'm getting a new rod/reel. I would buy my old combo (Daiwa Aird X 7 Foot Medium Heavy and a Daiwa Revros LT2500), but I really don't want to wait for the month-long tackle warehouse shipping and can't find anywhere where it would be any faster. So, does anyone know of any good combos I could get at a local bass pro, dicks, or walmart for around 100-200$. Preferably a spinning combo and able to fish for multi-species.

Thanks.

Sorry for rambling but I had to vent this story as my heart is broken. Attached are the images of the fish I mentioned.

Also, does anyone know if tackle warehouse or daiwa have any chance of replacing this rod? I doubt it but I guess it's worth a shot? Maybe?

I actually just ordered from tackle warehouse and received everything...that includes a new rod...in under a week. Then I ordered some baits yesterday morning and last night at 7 my old lady was checking emails and said it already shipped.

Unfortunately, I don't know of a warranty that replaces a rod (or reel) that was lost in the water, but man that would be amazing if I did. Maybe they could replace the full lineup of Daiwa Steez rods that I happened to have dropped at the bottom of a lake somewhere.

For what it's worth Tackle Warehouse does say their shipping times can be a month, but it's usually about a week. I just ordered something with two day shipping (so it would arrive before next week's trip) and got it in about two days.

I'm not sure what Bass Pro carries in store or not, but at Dick's you can usually at the very least you can usually find a St Croix Mojo Bass or maybe a Dobyns Fury, but it will be hard to find a medium heavy in a spinning setup, the most you will likely find in stores is medium as above that is not common with bass anglers.

I may have to move over to bait casting and learn it. I feel like I could. Also, I live in Maryland and I could just be unlucky with my tackle warehouse orders but they always seem to take at least a couple weeks. Also, my local Dicks has a Dobyns fury casting and spinning rod, and a Shimano SLX in the right lengths the only problem is finding a reel in store to match it.

Lew's has 8 combos that fit your criteria, all can be found at Academy, Dick's, Feild & Stream, Bass Pro Shop, & Cabelas.

Dicks sells dobyns fury rods and you can order a Daiwa Fuego for right around the 200 mark. Not sure there’s a better combo for the the money.

Shop on Amazon, you should be able to get the same setup in about 100 bucks or so. Amazon got pretty fast shipping if you don’t order from “other seller”

First off sorry for your lost combo. I’m a fan of the BPS carbonlite 2.0 casting combo I have and also my 1500 size Carbonlite 2.0 spinning reel. Best of luck and keep us updated.

I wouldn't think finding a spinning reel should really be a problem, a 2500 - 3500 reel depending on the brand and model should do fine for heavier bass fishing.

Speaking of which if you do decide to go for a casting setup, the SLX is not a bad reel. If you are using 14# mono or lighter or 16# fluorocarbon or lighter, the SLX MGL 70 is even better. The Daiwa Fuego CT is a solid cheaper option, and for a little more the Tatula CT is pretty good. THe The Tatula SV would be the best beginner's option, but those are a bit pricier.

If you're not interested in a mix and match process and would rather grab a combo, the Lew's Mach Crush at DSG is pretty good. My buddy got the 300(3000) size reel version mounted on on the 7' medium fast rod. It's a crisp fast, not a noodle. The reel is metal bodied and smooth, and the rod is pretty good, and you can touch one in the store to see if it fits. $179, but if you buy a bag of plastics, or other miscellaneous item that you probably need anyway, then fill out the survey at the bottom of the receipt, you'll get a $10 off $50 coupon to apply to the combo.

Honestly, on the higher end of that range ($150+), it's kind of hard to go wrong.  I'd just head down to a store and see what they have, and pick whatever catches your eye or feels the best in your hands.  That's right about at the sweet spot of the price to performance curve.

See if your local Dicks has any 13 Defys or Fate V3s.  Dobyns Fury is another one to look at too. If you looking for a spinning reel checkout Daiwa.  If casting check out SLX XT or Tatula CT.

I got an order from TW last week in 5 days including a weekend.  I think they have managed to catch up somewhat with the processing lag.  Hopefully this delta variant wont cause another shutdown.

For $100 at Dick’s you can get the Lew’s Speed Spin combo. I have the medium combo and I knicknamed it the “big fish stick” I seem to have luck catching big river fish with this combo. 5 pound largemouth, couple of 4 pound Channel Cats and a fish large 4+ pound Pickerel.

I highly recommend the Bass pro shop Carbonlite 2.0 rods. I have 3 of them and they get used hard, great value.

I’ve bought both my Revros off Amazon and received them quickly.
