Chiefs might be in trouble.  When they lost to the Chargers, I thought maybe it was just a tough divisional loss.  But I think its a pattern.  They looked bad against Buffalo, and hideous against the Titans.  Its very possible that their franchise QB's monstrous salary is handicapping the ability of the rest of the team, especially the defense, to compete.  Their defense is down right terrible and if they don't put up 35 points/game, they can't win.  If you pay one person the majority of your salary cap, you can't devote very much to everyone else.  And this is a team game after all.

Mahomes led the league in dropped interceptions last year.  Stuff that could have gone wrong did not last year, and it has this year.  That's the main difference.  But also it seems like he hates being patient with the check-downs and stuff, always wanting to make the big splash play.  He needs to take a page from Brady and Brees and find the easy completion sometimes.

4 of their top 5 salaries are on defense, Mahomes is #7 on the team this year. They're paying $30 million to 2 pass rushers with a combined 2 sacks on the season, $15 million to of PFF worse rated starting linebackers in the league (one of their other starting LB's is at the bottom of the list also but at least isn't paid like a star), and then Mathieu is in the top 5 salaries on the team as well. Tyreek Hill is the only offensive player in the top 5 of their salary cap. Somehow with all the money invested in their defense, it consistently remains ranked at the bottom of the NFL. To me, that screams coaching, which shouldn't be a surprise since Spagnolo has a track record of having bad defenses, but he beat Brady twice so they hired him. He did enough to pull them together for their Super Bowl run in 2019, but even then, they weren't good, just good enough. 

 

On the offensive side, I don't understand why Reid won't get them to run some quick slants and screens when everyone is daring them to make the short passes. With guys like Hill and Hardman, short passes don't always equal short gains. If they get the ball in the open, 7 yard slants potentially turn into 70 yard TDs and are much less likely to be picked than a forced 15-20 yard crossing pattern that runs right into the waiting d-backs. 

 

It's been frustrating to watch a team with this much talent play so poorly, but it kind of felt like it was coming as soon as that stupid "20-0", talk started. They're pretty lucky to have won 3 of their 7 games so far and the next several aren't any easier. Missing the playoffs looks more likely than making it at this point.

I didn't realize that the enormous contract Mahomes signed hadn't kicked in yet.  That makes it even worse to be honest because you like stated, players on defense ARE eating up a lot of salary and simply not earning a paycheck.  Coaching is an issue too, clearly.

Mathieu is totally overrated IMO.  I can attest that Spags sucks, as I am an Eagles fan.

He's smart and has a nose for the ball, but he's also very undersized and that combined with the fact that he's not as young as he use to be is starting to become a problem I believe. Still, with Frank Clark and Anthony Hitchens both on the team, he's far from the worst cost/performance player. Hitchens with a PFF score of 35 and a cap hit of 10.5 million to be one of the worst starting LBs in the league, Clark at 58.8 and the highest cap hit on the team at almost 26 million. Mathieu is overpaid for his performance, but at least he's done something notable in a couple games this year. I still hope they let him walk this offseason. Time to let Thornhill take the reigns and bring in another serviceable vet and draft a rookie to take their place in a year or two.

He may very well be out the following week against Seattle too because he is unvaccinated even though he led everyone to believe he was before the season started.

I saw the 4th quarter of that game after I came in from the deer stand and it was ugly.  I think its safe to say that Jordan Love is not ready to be the full time starting QB in Green Bay.

 

There were a lot of upsets that week.  Denver beat Dallas on the road and Buffalo lost to the Jaguars, 9-6.  Then one-win Miami put the clamps down on Baltimore.

 

You have the Titans minus Derrick Henry who are 8-2 but one of their losses were the Jets.  The freaking Jets!

 

I think the Dallas-KC game could be a shoot out this Sunday.

Hey @Glenn I am hearing rumors that the Seahawks are going to blow things up this off season and start over.  Could this be the end of the Russell Wilson era in Seattle?
