None of this first team to score bs That’s actually not the rule. It used to be first score wins whether it was a FG or TD.  A few years ago it changed to a new format. If the team who gets the ball first scores a TD, the game is over. If they score a FG, the other team gets a possession.  In this case, because both teams were blistering hot offenses and both defenses were out of gas, whoever won the coin toss was probably going to win with a TD. Which is exactly how it played out.  Buffalo had their chance in regulation. Some soft defense allowed KC to gain 35 yards on 2 quick plays and then kick a long FG to send it to OT in just 13 seconds. Quote
Super User Bird Posted January 24, 2022 Super User Posted January 24, 2022 Wow, Superbowl won't have anything on this game. Do feel bad for Josh Allen, what a playoff performance by this big kid. 4 Quote

But the NFL OT rule really sucks!!!!!! Basically decided by a coin toss. Not fair at all to not give both teams a possession. Agree 16 minutes ago, gimruis said: When Buffalo scored with 13 seconds left, I didn’t think they would lose. Really soft defense by the Bills at the end of regulation. Never been a fan of prevent defense.  Figured whoever won the coin toss would win the game in OT. Both defenses had to be exhausted. Prevent defense prevents you from winning haha. I’ve seen it too many times Quote

I’ve seen it too many times I understand the concept. Just keep everything in front of you. Well in this case, there was only 8 seconds left so KC had to call a quick passing play in order to save enough time for a FG attempt. Even if they would have just played their normal base cover or zone defense, there wouldn’t have been enough time left on the clock to try a FG. That one is on Leslie Frazier, the defensive coordinator. 1 Quote
HaydenS Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 The game would’ve been over at 13 seconds if the kicker had a kicked a returnable ball, forcing time off the clock.  If the kick returner didn’t take it to the house....   3 Quote

Make them return it and take 4-5 seconds off the clock. 2 Quote

Captain Phil Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Last night's game between the Chief's and the Bill's was the best football game I have ever seen and I've been watching football games before Super Bowl #1.  It doesn't get any better than that... 2 Quote

Crappy way to end though, I’ve seen a lot of better games. I saw a better one yesterday in fact, bucs vs rams  college has had better OT than NFL since they introduced it . They changed NFL OT in 2017 so the coin toss wouldn’t be the most critical part, but they forgot one part and last night the coin toss decided the game 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 24, 2022 Super User Posted January 24, 2022 Gotta say, last night's loss really hurts. Close to the loss to the NYG's in the first of 4 in a row SB losses. A friend told me his former NFL buddy said the kick off instead of a squib was probably the right/safest choice against a very dangerous Chiefs. I think a pooch kick would have been good, but they could have burned us with a run back.  Either way, incredible game, heartbreaker that the D couldn't defend for the only 13 seconds they needed to to seal the W. For a life-long Bill's fan, that hurts. I really thought we were SB bound only to be gut-punched by our own inept D play. 3 3 Quote
Black Hawk Basser Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 The coin toss didn't decide the game. There is a defensive side of the ball. The defense can even score points, themselves! And, I'd bet most people wouldn't be complaining if the Chiefs had lost the game. Buffalo's coaching choked it away with them protecting the sidelines, which was stupid, because KC had time outs left. The chiefs didn’t have to play defense…….  whoever won that coin toss was going to score touchdown, defense wasn’t being played by anyone at the end of that game  most fans just wanted to see each quarterback get a chance to play in OT. Super User roadwarrior Posted January 28, 2022 Super User Posted January 28, 2022 The "Fun Factor" was a Perfect 10. Either team coulda/ shoulda won. Regardless of the betting line, the next games are about even, we just have our favorites. Good luck to your team. I'm rooting for the Chiefs! Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 28, 2022 Super User Posted January 28, 2022 So my prediction for the 2 superbowl contenders came up 13 seconds short, I'm still on the niner train as a SB participant. Although beating a team for a 3rd time won't be easy. Quote

Niners had to win that to make the playoffs. They trailed 17-0 and came back to win. There was an enormous amount of niner fans there for that game too. Half the stadium was wearing red. Quote

Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 30, 2022 Super User Posted January 30, 2022 I'm not a huge 49ers fan but NorCal > SoCal so I'm hoping to see Shanahan push the winning streak over McVay to 7. Be nice to see the Bengals pull it off and have a circa 80's super bowl of the Bengals v 49ers. However, now that I've jinxed them both the Chiefs v Rams super bowl should be entertaining. ? 2 Quote
