So I have heard really good things about jigs, so I picked up a few different colors and trailers. I like the action, and it's a nice compact size but all to often I feel like the jig catches alot of millfoil and it gets really annoying when my trailer slides down. I tried fishing them a few times, and these have a light weed guard. Maybe should I buy a heavier weed guard jig,? But even so the grass seems to not catch the hook but instead the skirt. Maybe just stick to a slender trigged worm. Maybe fish the jig in more woody/rocky areas? If I'm missing something let me know, also if you have any ideas on keeping a trailer on hit me up on that, is the skirt superglue safe?

What type of jig is it? Football, Finesse, Swim, Arky? Each type is for a different cover

Some styles of jig come with a bait-keeper. Usually a thin wire with a hook that you embed in the plastic.

If you use super-glue, make sure it dries (few seconds) and your skirt should have no problems.

Arkie style is not going to be your best option in milfoil. You'll specifically want to pick up a couple "grass jigs." They will come through the veggies better, and many will have special trailer holders built in like a screwlock or similar. TW sells at least 29 different brands, or look at some of the site sponsor options.

A lot of people starting out with a jig try to force the jig out of the snag. Try to lightly tug (finesse) it out.
It does a couple of things:

1: It gets your jig back lol

2: The subtle movement shakes things (grass & silt) up and once free it usually has a curious fish waiting for it on the other end.

Be sure to read @Team9nine’s post above especially about grass jigs. Lot of good info there.
Team9. I’m out of “Likes” for the day. I owe you one. ?

If its submerged grass, I think the best option for you would be a 1/4 ounce swim jig.  Light enough to stay above the grass and not getting bogged down, but a model stout enough to pull the fish out after its made a b line back into the muck after the hook set.

If its matted grass, a heavy grass jig would be your best choice.

ah a swim jig may be worth trying, at least if its moving it wont dig down as much as a normal arke jig, I do have some of these and didnt even think of it, yeah its just submerged grass that grows a few feet under the surface.

The arkie style is really more of an open water casting jig.   Its good in rocks too though.

Other than a grass jig, I really like a Texas rig with a punch skirt on it.  Looks like a jig with the skirt flaring out, but you texpose your hook point and it comes through weeds awesome.

I think this may be my best bet, I just looked at what a punch skirt is and it looks awesome, you get the profile of the jig but the weedlessness of a soft plastic

Lighter flipping jigs work really well.  One of my favorite jigs to throw in the summer is Riots Minima Jig in 1/4oz.

Yeah these jigs I got are 3 16th oz, so pretty light but maybe I'll have to try flipping jigs instead

3/16 will work for pitching or swimming as long as you arent trying to get through grass or cover.  Once you put a trailer you should have enough weight to be able to toss it easy enough.
