I'm not new to frog fishing. I have a dedicated combo for it. But my Popping Pad Crasher wore out so I bought a new one. I can't seem to catch anything that bites the new frog. I bent the hooks out, sharpened them and trimmed the legs short all to no avail. I've missed a couple of big bass that blew up on it. I started waiting until I feel the fish moving away with it to set the hook. I just yank the bait away from them. Finally, Saturday I gave up and tied on the regular Pad Crasher, junior size. Instant success. IDK what's wrong with that popping frog. I've always had good a experience with them before. But to the bottom of the box it goes.

Did you try a different color? Sometimes the same frog in a different color will make the difference.

As much as I love my Scumfrog Trophy Series, I have thrown one or two that just weren't right.  They didn't track straight or just somehow didn't have the mojo.  I didn't waste much time with those.  I have plenty and life is too short to mess with non-mojo baits.  I've seen enough of your posts about froggin to know you ain't a frog noob.  As you said....to the bottom of the box.

I don’t know. Never threw a frog. I tried one last time I was out. Casted it right off into the water in a backlash. On a spinning rod mind you. It was a sign. Go back to my usual methods.

Mass produced bait, maybe just got a bad one? I wouldn't keep using it but it's a proven bait so I wouldn't let that one deter you from using them in the future either.

I only had one color, bullfrog I think. It's the same color as the bait that wore out. That bait caught lots and lots of fish. It saved me from a skunk several times. Color might matter a lot in open water. But I don't know how well fish can distinguish them on top of lilies. It's not like it wasn't getting bitten. I would even feel some fish moving off with it. I do have a couple regular full-size Pad Crashers (not popping) that I'll also give a try.

I have a couple of new ones that i picked up this year and a couple of old ones.  The old one work great but the new ones seem to have a different hook.  In any case,  I haven't been able to land a fish with the new version.  I have missed several fish as well.

Dang, I just bought three of those. I'm not a frogging expert by any stretch, but the pad crashers seem to have the ok points more exposed than the Live Target frogs I have.

I caught a 6 pounder a while back on the Teckel Sprinker frog. But its hooks are a little too exposed. I got by with it that day, but it caught a lot of lilies.

Don't let me discourage you. I've always had great luck with Booyah frogs. This is an anomaly.

Indeed.  I have found more frogs to not be right than any other bait out of the package.  I confirm it by swapping with an identical and then they get donated to someone else.  No desire to have anything that doesn't work right in my box regardless if it is the top or bottom.

Yea, I think you and BB86 got it right. I really didn't think that could be the case because you were getting blow ups on it. I've had it happen, and I've heard from others, that an identical lure just doesn't produce like others, but in those cases, it just wasn't getting bit. Sounds like it's time to get another, but I'd purchase it from a different retailer.
