Line twist drop shotting from bank

Dear all,

I’m practicing my drop shot technique (the only one I’ve caught fish on so far) and after I switched to braid and fluoro I am noticing a lot more line twist on my line. But I’m not entirely sure the worm and hook spinning in the water would contribute to this. Especially since I am casting from the shore and twitching it back. Wouldn’t the roboworm only trail the line and hook and not do rotations around the line underwater? Not sure If I’m making sense.

Could be your sinker twisting the line as well? Maybe? Just a thought?

I've been using a variation of the DS and haven't had line twist.

I thought about that. I am using the cheapest tear drop sinker from Walmart. Can’t really say the weight swivels cause it’s so crudely casted.

Dropshot is one of line twisted enemy doesn’t matter spinning or baitcaster. If you are using braid you can use good small swivel, to help reduce line twisted.make sure to hook plastic straight, nose hook seem to be best. Slow down the retrieve will also help tremendously since those plastic would spin no matter how straight when you reel in fast. Once the lure out of water, let it spin itself out for a few second before next cast. The vmc spin shot hook might help but for me with thin 10 lb braid trend to get in between those two gaps by hook eye.

Another method is to use bobbers stopper dropshot rig, instead of clip weight, you will have to use swivel weight to tie good knot, because there would be no knot on the hook itself. The lure will spin freely when twisted.

Line twist is just something you get with spinning reels. The cheap sinkers combined with reeling in fast don't help. I don't care for spin shot hooks. Better drop shot sinkers with good swivels, closing the bail by hand, and knowing you'll have to troll out the line to remove any twist are what I do to keep it at bay.

Yeah I do two of the three you mentioned. I always close the bail by hand and I try and get the twist out at the end of the day at home. Guess I have to pick up some better sinkers.

swivel about 1-2 feet above the hook reduces my line twist tremendously

Adding a quality, ball bearing swivel above the hook helps tremendously.  The problem is jamming it into your rods top guide when using a long drop line from the hook to the weight. It also eliminates the need for a braid to fluoro knot when using braid.
