deps swimbait modification

in the pictures shown a guy from japan has mounted a frog hook on the cheek of a deps 250. can anyone maybe explain how he could have done this and how i might be able to do it as well?

Looks like he probably just screwed a hook hanger into the bait?

Thats exactly what I think he did. A 1/16 in bit and a small eye screw would get it done. I guess what is the purpose though? Is it really necessary? 

I guess is he fishing it on its side?

The bottom hooks are removed. Looks like the 250 might have hooks on each side that are banded together at the bottom. Would be a little more snag/weed resistant. In super clear water, maybe he's thinking the hooks hanging down are deterring strikes and the hooks on the side look more natural since there's normally fins and gill plates in those areas?

Could be the species of fish in Japan that attack the head of the fish? I'm guessing here, but a lot of saltwater spoons that the Japanese use have an extra hook - sometimes 2 - at the line tie.

The added hook at the line tie is becoming very popular with saltwater fishermen here in the states.

it's a bottom fishing rig. no reason to have hooks on the bottom when the fish can't get to them. i'm sure the hook placement on the cheek was chosen because of fish behavior that he observed
