Anyone who is interested, Sierra trading post has several Daiwa BLX rods selling for $199 and a Kage swim bait rod for $109. Pretty great deals

Found tons of good deals over the years at this site.  They have been kind of hit and miss lately and their prices are not as good as they use to be but still better than retail.

My best fishing find from them was an Abu Garcia Fanasista rod.  This rod was about $500 retail and I think I got for under $200.  Great rod, cool looking and GLX sensitive.

Their service and coupons went Way Down (and prices up) when they sold and franchised.

But still always worth the effort to check their stock.

I have a couple of $450-550 retail Italian field jacket and Marmot gortex-III light techy shell that cost me $110-130 delivered, but that was before they sold the company.  A pair of $1000 Italian lawyer shoes that cost me $200 (I wear them to meetings with attys).  The place to buy 400-thread-count sheets, etc. (make your wife happy).

They also used to refund Any return in any condition, after any length of time.

The original owner prided himself in a worn-out pair of returned running shoes displayed in his office bookcase.

I even took 18 months to return a pair of Ariat ropers that didn't quite fit and received full refund.  I was buying something on the phone, mentioned them, the phone lady gave me full credit on the spot and sent will-call return shipping for the ropers with my new order.

They don't work that way now, but still hunt quality items with good discount.

Years ago, Sierra Trading Post was my first-look go-to when mail-ordering anything for the outdoors.  I haven't looked there much lately.

I still have a lot of great polypro base layer stuff from them... discontinued colors, overstocks, etc., purchased at way under retail.  And all kinds of sporting outerwear like waterproof-breathable rain gear, down jackets, etc.  All name brand  stuff at fantastic prices... they saved careful shoppers a lot of money.

My last purchase with them wasn't bad on price though.  I picked up a pair of Chippewa boots for $80 and they were not seconds.  They retail for $250.  Some of the best work boots I have ever owned.   On the other hand, somethings just aren't discounted like they use to be.  You have to watch what you get, price wise.

I've ordered a bunch from Sierra through the years.  Good stuff as always!

Buddy of mine was a buyer for Cabela's back in the day...I asked him one time how companies can discount their goods at such a rate, and still make $$.

His reply..."oh, no matter how discounted the product, the company is making a ****-ton of money...take advantage of any sale / discount / coupon that you can!"

He said an item that retails for $30.00 usually costs them about $0.27 to manufacture and get delivered...now there are a bunch of costs after that...but you get the idea. Some items have a lower profit margin.

He said the "Cabela's" branded clothing made the most profit! Cabela's actually created their own camo designs back in the day...because when they used RealTree or Advantage patterns, they had to pay those companies a share.
