So I recently decided to try a little experiment and throw some black marabou jigs for largemouth. I know they are usually used for smallies but since its dog days of summer I figured maybe my green fish would appreciate a nice subtle treat. My problem was finding a rod to throw them on. Then I remembered a stick I have in my crappie pile. Its a 7ft Shakespeare micro series light power rod. Paired it up with a cheap shimano I've had for years and some trilene xl 6lb. All in I've got maybe $50 into the combo. Ned would be proud to hear of this rig I do believe!

Be careful...  before you know it, you'll be spending big money on some fancy BFS gear!  ?

You need a $450 BFS specific baitcaster and a special ordered Japanese made rod that will take 3 months to ship in order to properly do this technique. Trust me, the bass know the difference.

clearly the sarcasm of inexperience.

FedEx from Japan delivers faster than all domestic-US shipping.

54 hours good enough for you?

maybe they're using time-warp?

The same reel that casts 1/16 oz can cast over 1 oz without any adjustment.

Heavy is easy.

Now you've got no excuse not to spend $450 on new gear to continue doing what you've already done! ?

Or if you were savvy enough to do a little research you could try BFS with a Kastking Zephyr reel ($70) and a nice Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse series rod which are affordable and easily available here in the states.

It proves what many of us have known all along. Very expensive tackle is nice, but you really don't always need it to catch some bass.

that becomes correct if you change Many to All

(the chips on shoulders are beyond transparent)

Who is this Ned guy, anyway, and why in fishing are old fishing techniques suddenly new and techy when someone attaches his name to it?  Stick bait + jighead.

In fly fishing it was Lieserling Lift - gee, ya think that swings?

People were building finesse spinning rods from fly rod tapers on every shore before WWII.

The reels were a little funky

I guess as long as they don't violate the Temporal Prime Directive we're all good.

Glad you found the segue I left for you - of course it was the size of a C-5 Galaxy.

I left a couple for Dr. Freud, as well.

Gotta wonder how many rods our OP had to sort through in the sum of the crappie pile to find the one cost-effective jewel.  Yes, the math equivalence raises its ugly head again.

Not that fast, but I posted on another thread about ordering a reel from Sportsman's Outfitters and 2 hours or so later a reel from aliexpress (Asian Portal).  The reel from overseas arrived in 5 days.  The one shipped from right here in the USA arrived 2 days later....which was 2 days earlier than the estimated delivery date when it was shipped.

EDIT:  When I said '2 days later' I meant after the other reel arrived.  Just in case it wasn't clear what I meant.

Last year I ordered a rod blank. About three weeks later I ordered some shirts. A few days later i got two emails about 15 minutes apart. One said the shirts has shipped. The other said the blank had shipped.

The shirts took seven days to get to me. The blank took three days.

The shirts cane from Duluth Trading, in St Charles, Missouri, about two hours from my house. The blank is a CTS, and came from New Zealand.
Seven days to go 115 miles. Two days to go half-way around the world. Go figure.

Been there, but the other direction.

Sent Yule cards to my parents (Golden Valley, MN - about 12 miles) and the mother-in-law (Boca Raton, FL - about 1700 miles). In picked up the same day from my mailbox.

MIL's card arrived in 3 days

Parent's card took 2 weeks.

I'm driving a 2005 Silverado that's half way rusted out. I can appreciate old lumbering clunky things that still do the job.

Wow, a recent model. :laugh5:

I'm driving a 2001 Silverado - but the only parts rusted are the rocker panels and a bit around the rear wheel-wells.

It was tough deciding between Star Trek and Rocky Horror Picture Show, to be honest.

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. I feel your pain. It runs like a top. A well-rusted top!

Just got 2 Diawa laguna rods from wallyworld for $30.60 apiece with free shipping. Close out prices are a good thing.

They're not up to Aird-X standards, but the Laguna MH/F casting rod I have does the job at least decently...I won't use it for bottom contact as it's not sensitive enough, but it does well with spinners and chatters.

Well rods came and I went fishing, Hooked a nice one right as the lure fell at the pads edge. He raced into the pads and arrowheads and it turned ugly....son thought I was gonna break the rod (so did I but I didn't let on) after some real back and forth I pulled him up to the boat. Rods got backbone for sure, it will be my primary stickbait rod and will see much duty with large and smallmouth. Webp.net-compress-image.thumb.jpg.a0709a0193e4615618fcc26591c46107.jpg
