Super User Mobasser Posted July 16, 2021 Super User Posted July 16, 2021 Had my first ever Colonostopy two days ago. Had to drink the lemon flavored stuff the night before, and finish by 4:00 in the morning. The stuff sure works, just like the doc said it would. My wife drove me home, and I felt a little groggy, but hungry. So, we stopped at a good cafe, and I loaded up on ham and eggs, hash browns, biscuits, hot coffee and a big glass of tomatoes juice- with a shot of hot sauce. For those here on BR who have never had a colonostopy, don't worry. There's far worse things you could go through, and you'll survive just fine. The doc says all is good. Now, I'm ready to go fishin. 14 1 Quote
desmobob Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Glad to hear it went well, Sean. Even though my dad was a colon cancer survivor, I put off my first colonoscopy for years. When I finally had it done, I realized it was a breeze. It put my mind at ease, too. It seems like it would be horrible but it's not, at all. And it could really save your life... Edit to add: I just had to correct a spelling error... I typed "fist" instead of "first"! Calling Dr. Freud... ? 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 I've had two Colonoscopies, it was no big deal at all. I did find that the homework (prep) was way worse than the test. ? 5 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted July 16, 2021 Super User Posted July 16, 2021 Yeah. I've had two. The worst part is prep. The procedure is just a good nap. Interesting story. With my second colonoscopy, I did all the prep and then arrived on schedule at the clinic. I walk up to the desk and told them my name. The lady looked at the schedule then gave me a funny look. She ask if I had done all the prep and then said I was not on the schedule. I had all the paperwork they had sent me and showed her I was scheduled for that date. She told me to have a seat. I sat down and watched as the staff started freaking out. They messed up somehow and did not have me scheduled. The doctor had already left for the day. They were able to call him and he came back to do my procedure. I would not have been happy if I had done the prep for nothing. 5 1 Quote

813basstard Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 More importantly, was there any vodka in that tomato juice with hot sauce? Quote
DaubsNU1 Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 I had blood in stool a while back...have had four colonoscopies...now that I’m on the plus side of 50, it’s time for more. Back in the day had to drink stuff called “Go-Lightly.” It was horrible. Prep now a days is much better. Glad everything came out okay! : ) 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted July 16, 2021 Super User Posted July 16, 2021 I had my one and only at 55. Funny story, I went into the, prep area of the hospital, the nurse came in and set the IV in my arm and then the anesthesiologist came in and it was a lady I had met at a party the weekend before…….talk about embarrassing. She thought it was hilarious. ?? 5 Quote
The Bassman Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 The toughest part for me was not being able to eat for over 24 hrs. Popsicles and Jello just don't cut it. Didn't even let myself go fishing the day before because of the walking involved which would up my appetite. 3 Quote
desmobob Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 One of my friends, who is quite shy, went to her first colonoscopy and was terribly embarrassed about the whole thing. As she got onto the exam table, the nurse said, "Susan... is that you? Oh my God! I haven't seen you since college!" ? 4 Quote

Super User Log Catcher Posted July 16, 2021 Super User Posted July 16, 2021 Glad everything came out okay for you. I will be 70 this year and I still haven't had one. My doctor has talked to me about it but I haven't agreed to do it yet. 2 Quote

Super User MN Fisher Posted July 17, 2021 Super User Posted July 17, 2021 My GP doc keeps bugging me about it - I'll be hitting 62 this year and have yet to have one. BUT I have yearly oncology appointments for the eye, and the blood-test they do screens for all kinds of things. My Oncology-doc says that if something in that comes up abnormal, then maybe it'd be a good idea to get someone to 'take a look'...till then, I'm good. 1 Quote

The Bassman Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Kidding aside, you guys should get checked, at least an in home test. I'm from Indianapolis and we were shocked when former driver John Andretti was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in his young 50's. He's passed away since then. 1 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 18, 2021 Global Moderator Posted July 18, 2021 When I got my drivers license at 16, my aunt said I need you to take me to a doctors appt. So I take her and sit down in the waiting room, unknowingly right next to the bathroom. Well you can imagine, I heard explosions non stop . I had no clue what kind of doctor we were at but she explained the situation when she came to hahahabaha 1 Quote

With my butt exposed for the procedure I grinned at her and said, “what part of me are we talking about?” I think we both blushed at that one. She was my son’s karate sensei when he was in the Lil Dragons program at our local YMCA. It was stupid to tease her, she could whup my butt easily. 2 6 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 19, 2021 Super User Posted July 19, 2021 I had to take the colonoscopy test twice within a month. The prep didn't work all the way the first time so they couldn't complete the test. Their solution was for me to schedule a second test and take the prep for 2 days. I told them no way in ^&%# was I drinking 2 jugs of that stuff. They told me to take laxatives for a week before the second colonoscopy and then the prep the day before the test. The found a non cancer polyp and removed it. I'm good for another 10 years. 3 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted July 19, 2021 Super User Posted July 19, 2021 Glad everything went smoothly…? I had my first one last year. The prep WAS crappy but not the procedure . Lost 10 pounds but gained it all back in a week or so. 2 Quote
Super User islandbass Posted July 19, 2021 Super User Posted July 19, 2021 That is good to hear. I was scheduled for one because of my age. I filled out the questionnaire my doc sent my and to make a short story shorter, I was told I didn’t need one given my current health and family history. I was actually kind of shocked. I am wondering now if I should insist on it even if it’s out of pocket. Anyone else experience this? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 19, 2021 Super User Posted July 19, 2021 See a different doctor and schedule your procedure...pronto! 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted July 19, 2021 Super User Posted July 19, 2021 Had my one and only at age of 55. Doctor said all was well but had to schedule a sleep study because he had to slap me to get me to breathe. Told the doctor that I'm pretty sure he'd hold his breath as well with a camera shoved up his behind. Failed the sleep study and have been wearing a Cpap ever since. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 19, 2021 Super User Posted July 19, 2021 They couldn’t wake me up either after the procedure. I told them sitting on the pot all night wore me out. Quote
