waymont Posted July 15, 2021 Posted July 15, 2021 New G Loomis lineup in-between the E6x and IMX-Pro. Curious to know about the blank material. Quote

EzyEric Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 That sucks if it's same blank as E6X. Loomis badly needed a rod at this price point that could compete or at least be more sensitive than the competition. We'll see after a year what people think. Maybe it is much better. Zodias redesign certainly added a lot last year. 1 Quote

I've never fished an E6X but have never been interested in owning one, especially at that price point there are some MUCH better rods available. 1 Quote

waymont Posted July 22, 2021 Author Posted July 22, 2021 The new Curado rods also look very nice. Quote

Ctbrahan2 Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 I have been fortunate enough to be able to fish with one recently. I fished with the 7’5” FPR. Good rod, plenty of sensitivity a little tip heavy. Rod weighs 5.7 ounces compared to the 5.2 ounces my buddies imx pro in the same specs. Not sure what the E6x weighs. Blank definitely is a different material than the imx pro and E6x rods. GCXs blank has a little bit of a lighter gray color. Guide spacing is very different between the two rods. The GCXs first guide (closest to the reel) is located where the second guide of the imx pro is located. The imx pro has 10 guides and the gcx has 9. Balance is about the same between the two rods but you can definitely feel the difference in weight. Imx pro is more of a true heavy, gcx is more like a mag heavy. Those are my two cents about the rod. Only used it for a day. 1 Quote

DomQ Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 Got to play around with the rod this past weekend, wasn't impressed. The butt end of the rod had a piece of cork about a half inch long glued to it, and it was glued off centered and you could clearly see the glue, looked horrible. What a shame man, I'm a big shimano/g loomis guy, was really disappointed. Quote

Did you fish one? Quote

Aaron_H Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 I can't speak to how it fishes, as I only played with one model (the 845CBR) in-store while shopping for a new crankbait rod, but it didn't feel great to me. Light, well-constructed (did not see any QC issues on the rod I handled), but I just...wasn't impressed? I can't pin it exactly, it just felt a bit dead in my hands. I ended up leaving with a Dobyns Fury 705CB after having them side by side. Quote
TNBankFishing Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 I truly don't understand the logic behind this series. You have two of the best values in fishing in the Zodias and Expride, but you can't create a decent $250 Loomis rod? I understand the idea of scraping the Shimano parts bin to make the NRX better, but why not do the same with the GCX? Add a monocoque handle, or stainless SIC, or get a new blank with the Shimano wrap. At this point I think I'd rather have them just kill the line off and only support the IMX and above. This feels like a cash grab to pull in people who see the new NRX and think some of the tech in the upper line has trickled down. Clearly it hasn't. St. Croix attacked the Zodias line with the Victory which is good for us as consumers. Daiwa came out with the very solid Rebellion series giving a JDM feeling rod at a reasonable price. Megabass Levante has made some splashes with the range of the series and styling. I don't think I'd jump at the chance to buy a GCX over any of those three, and they aren't even direct competitors. Dobyn's Champs, Exprides, St. Croix Tournament, and the multitude of smaller companies like ALX craft a superior offering at the same price point. 2 1 Quote
