Looking for opinions on the best t-rig rod for right around $100. I've been watching a lot of videos on this matter and am leaning towards a MH or H rod in the 7'3" to 7'6" length but I could be swayed smaller.

I use a M SC kicked out to 7'6" for Trigs.  For $100 your best bet is what you can find used.

Kistler is running a sale right now, The Kistler Graphite is 99.00, The Magnesium 2 is 129.00. Both are fine rods IMHO.

I love my dobyns 703 fury, actually got 2. Very versatile, I use one for my t-rigs and the other as a Swiss Army knife. Perfect for a 1/4 oz and most plastics, but can be a bit overloaded past that.

T-Rigs for me means something in a 1/4oz weight and less, so for me MH with a MF tip is ideal.

I'm looking to be a bit more flexible and be able to throw 1/4oz and 1/2oz from smaller creature baits to 10"+ big worms. I know ideally those would require two separate rods but I'm trying to find a rod that could do both.

I honestly don't think that requires 2 separate rods. You'd be surprised by what you can get in those weight ranges.

I'm using a Daiwa Fuego as my Leatherman rod, believe it or not for mostly jigging in saltwater 80' down and that rod can handle 1/4 oz to 1 1/2oz. It a heavy/fast action 6'9 rod that has the attributes of a MH/MF rod I mentioned. That rod was $78. Love it!

Powell Diesel Casting Rod 7'3" Heavy 734CF

I have 2 of the Powell Diesel Crankbait rods and I've been really happy with them. For only $89.99 they are pretty nice rod, only downfall is no warranty. I was impressed for the price and build quality is pretty good also.

Many MH rods start at 1/4 oz.  That plus trailer should take you to at least 3/8 oz.  I cast bare 3/0 EWG plus 10" ribbontail worms on a MH rated 1/4-1 oz. all the time.  Going to 1/2 oz. plus trailer should still be well within such a rod's capabilities.  Might be pushing it on a Phenix, tho.  :lol1:

I really can't comment on which is best:  Fast vs Moderate Fast (Regular).  I've always used a Fast.  However, since getting some Tatulas with a Regular action I've been thinking they just might do the trick as well.  They aren't noodles.  Plus I'm pretty sure they fish a bit heavy.

Sorry, but can't offer any rod suggestions at that price.  I'd have to search a few websites to see what is available fitting your criteria.  I know many here are fond of the Aird X.  There is a 7'3" MHF rated 1/4-1 oz.  I have zero experience with the Ark Lancer Pro, but there are a couple models from 7'3" to 7'6" that should work.  I do like the Tharp rods that I have.

Would a Dobyns Fury 765 Flip work for t-rigs?

A bit heavy. You would probably want a 704C or 734C for all around T-Rigs or a 703C or 733C if you don't throw them around cover and use light or no weights.

I fish all of the above on my Bass X MH F 7’-1” rod with 17lb. Flouro  or my Carbonlite 2.0 MH F rod with 15lb. Flouro, depending on the cover. Both rods handle these baits well.

Should it be a Moderate, Moderate-Fast, Fast or Extra-Fast taper?

I personally like a fast action rod from a hook set standpoint. What I find is that rod action vary from 1 rod manufacturer to the other. My opinion anyway.

The rod I mentioned is a fast action rod, but compared to a St Croix I built a while ago, it acts more like a med-fast, maybe a little stiffer than that.

Dobyns Fury is a good bet in your price range if you catch it on sale. Don't know if TW still has sales, but that would be the way to hit your price.

FR 703SF would be my choice for good casting distance and backbone. Sorry I'm downstairs watching for fedx to drop off a rod I bought. Didn't see your question. Dave

Application specific rods were popularized by Gary Dobyns.

Before the early 90’s we had bass rods made from glass, Graphite or Boron. Glass rods were used for crank baits, graphite for everything else and boron disappeared to fragile.

The application rods were Dee Thomas Fenwick flipping rod, general use 6 1/2’ bass action rod, the glass cranking rod and spinning rods for split shot.

Today the casting “bass” rod is called MHF or 4 power in 7’ length, will do it all very well.

The $100 price point limits warranty, quality of handle materials,  guide train and weight.

I would consider a factory refurbished Dobyns Sierra series704 or 734 rod from his in-house store.

Tom
