I’ve been taking my photos vertically with my iPhone, think I have to start doing it horizontal!

My rule of thumb has always been if his mouth is about as big as my fist, it's around 4lb, maybe a little under, maybe a bit over, nice fish, congratulations!

Well I can't be as generous as most.... What I see is a big hollow head and a tad over three pounds of meat. Still a nice bass though ~ congratulations David.

Be honest, your giving him a half pound or so penalty for the hat aren't you? ??

The next lesson you will learn is that when you take a measuring tape and a scale you will never catch a big one (Murphy’s Law of measurement)

^THIS^  + If you want to keep a few to eat, DO NOT take a cooler or a stringer with you!!! I can't stress this enough!!!

The first pic shows a good size fish. The second pic doesn’t do the fish any justice because of the angle the fish pic was taken.

3.5 - 4 lbs.

A good one for the memory bank for sure!

Good point. The first picture is the best, and was taken by a bystander who was right near me on the bank (thankful for that). The second was a selfie, and you're right, it doesn't do it justice. That angle is fine for the 1-2 lb bass I normally get but I need to learn how to take better photos by myself for the bigger ones.

One thing you can do the next time you catch an oinker and don’t have anything to measure with is to lay the fish down and measure the fish with a piece of fishing line. Cut the line to the exact length of the fish. Use a second piece of fishing line and get the girth of the fish. Stuff both lines in your pocket and measure when you get home. There’s a fish calculator on this site - or they used to be, not sure if it’s still here - plug in the numbers and you can’t get a ballpark weight of your fish.

Italian ingenuity at work here! ?
