David 7 Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Building off my question from yesterday, what’s the best type of hook in your opinion? Please include name brand and size. The premise is 5” GYCB senkos, wacky rigged. Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 I don't know about best, but what i have had the best hook up percentage with is the Mustad Titanx hooks. In the #1 size is what I use Quote
moguy1973 Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 When I'm fishing places I don't need to be weedless I use Owner Mosquito hooks size 1 or 1/0. If I'm fishing around a lot of wood or other snaggy things I use Berkley Fusion19 weedless wide gap hooks in the same sizes. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted July 7, 2021 Super User Posted July 7, 2021 Gamakatsu finesse wide gap hook, for a 5" Senko a 1/0 or 2/0 will work well. 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 7, 2021 Super User Posted July 7, 2021 Gamakatsu 1/0 circle octopus hook Quote

Holetail Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 VMC Neko 1/0 with the heavy mono for a weedguard. I use o rings and cross them to hook into the “x” 1 Quote

I use the size of the hook to fine tune ROF. I use a size 1 or 3/0 sometimes, but mostly the 2 sizes I posted originally. 12 minutes ago, David 7 said: These are going to be the ones I order, thank you. Would a 3/0 be too big? Well you might as well go all in then, get yourself some surgical tubing That snugly fits your bait of choice and slice 1/8"-3/16" (metric conversion available ) sections and slide it to where you want to place the hook (topic for different thread) hook just the surge tube or as much of the worm as you like, fish one Senko all day. If you really want to get crazy, save your "spent" t-rigged ones and use those. 1 Quote

Super User FryDog62 Posted July 7, 2021 Super User Posted July 7, 2021 Another vote for VMC weedless Neko size #2 (not to be confused with 2/0)... I think I've tried all the others listed and they are good, but the VMC Neko has been the best in terms of hook up/landing percentage... and almost always hooks them in the roof of the mouth. Flawless hooks for me... 2 Quote
Kenny Yi Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 VMC Neko size 1 hook, i don't like reel-setting so no circle-style hook. makes it easily interchangeable with a Neko-rigged worm as well. Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted July 7, 2021 Super User Posted July 7, 2021 I need weedless rigs. I use the Moto Hook exclusively. 1/0 size. o ring. But I just got surgical tubing from a friend. Quote
JoePhish Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 I use the Trokar Neko Weedless in size 2. I like how the “v” part of the hook nestles the o ring. Quote

Super User Boomstick Posted July 8, 2021 Super User Posted July 8, 2021 Either the Owner Mosquito hooks I usually use for a drop shot or the Owner Offset Shank worm hooks. Something else I like for wacky rigs, if I'm fishing them on the bottom is fishing them on a jig head like a Strike King Squadon Swimbait jig head. Quote

I think I am going to give these a try. Trying to hook between o-rings can be a pain sometimes, although they do make a senko last a longer time for sure. Quote
Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted July 8, 2021 Super User Posted July 8, 2021 #1 VMC Neko/ Weedless Neko or 1/0 Owner Sniper Neko/weedless Sniper Neko 2/0-3/0 Mosquito hooks work really well too. 1 Quote

Just have to be mindful they can cut the worm in half sometimes. But I've caught fish with the worm cut part way through and I just slide the rubber band up the worm a bit to a new section where it's not cut. 1 Quote
Oldskool67 Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 VMC Neko and weedless Neko #1, 1/0 also like Gamakatsu wicked wacky in 1/0 2/0 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted July 8, 2021 Super User Posted July 8, 2021 I've experimented with numerous hooks for throwing wacky rigged senkos. I nearly always use an o-ring. I like a weighted hook, because I think the slightly fast drop helps. My current favorite ( for the last 5 or 6 years at least ) has been a Falcon K-wacky hook 3/0 - 1/16 oz. - with the wire mouse trap style weed guard. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 9, 2021 Super User Posted July 9, 2021 Owner Jungle weedless wacky hook size 1, #4109-106 Tom 2 Quote
Phelptwan Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 I tried out some of the Trokar Weedless Wacky hooks last night and I missed piles of fish on them. I feel like the weed guard is slightly too stiff on them and preventing a deep hookset. I switched to the Gamakatsu Wicked Wacky and stopped having issues. 1 Quote
MGF Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 The only weedless hooks I've tried are the VMC weedless wacky hooks. I don't think I ever hooked a fish on them. A 5" stick bait doesn't leave room for the wire to open. Quote
