Several people have recommended these lures for Largemouth Bass and Peacock Bass. I just bought one of each and would appreciate some advice on how to fish with them. I fish in a small lake in south Florida. I’m wondering if I should retrieve the lures slowly with some pops and pauses or whether I should make them loud and noisy and move them faster? Thanks very much for any advice.

You can’t fish that torpedo wrong. Steady slow retrieve, burn retrieve, or put a pause to it. Just get creative and use your imagination while using it.

The pop-r is what it is. Slash it. Experiment with a cadence.

Though I don’t swim them. I guess you can.

Both are time proven baits that work for sure.

Both

Let the fish tell you how they want it.

I usually start it faster and loud and then slower as it gets closer mixing it up for a few subsequent casts.

Take note on where and how they hit.

For the peacocks, rip the Torpedo and work the Pop R pretty fast unless you get no action from the fish. When they strike and miss, just keep working the bait until they get the hooks. If you stop, they usually won't pursue anymore. You can watch YouTube videos of this.

For largemouth it's a little different, usually. Just give them short jerks and pauses to make them do their thing. Adjust the cadence until you find what the fish want. Also, let the bait "soak" for several seconds before you begin retrieving. Bass will sometimes smash the bait before it even moves.

Also, I had one day when the fish just wanted the Torpedo steadily retrieved back to the boat like a Whopper Plopper. I caught over 50 that day and they bit it all day long. I had so many bites I kept having to bend the blade back straight because it would bind.

Big fan of both, no real way to fish them wrong. The prop on the torpedo may need to be tuned, mostly by adjusting the screw eye, and twisting and bending the blades a bit.

I can't remember how many big bass have struck my Pop-R (I use the smaller one) by simply inhaling the lure while it was motionless, sometimes with nary a ripple. Smaller bass almost always hit it hard, though.

I've watched a 6 pounder ease up under a Chug Bug and just open its mouth. No explosion or commotion on top. It just disappeared.

Same, the first time it happened, I thought it was a fluke, but I've since had several poppers and frogs just disappear without as much as a ripple, usually in really calm conditions, and it's usually a good one. It's a thing.

I think it happens when you drop a bait right in their face and they decide to take the easy meal. I seems to happen to me right after the cast when I'm letting it sit.

A big bass doesn't need to worry about getting hurt so they just inhale it.  The dinks are worried about a fight so they try to kill the bait first thing.

I will usually cast them out and let them sit for a minute.  Let the ripples die off.  Then I'll begin the retrieve.  With the popper, I snap the rod downward, so it makes a "blulb" sound instead of a splash.  With the torpedo, anything can work.

Just get out there and try some stuff.  They're both fairly easy to catch fish with.  Just try something, and if it doesn't work, try it a different way.
