Super User Mobasser Posted July 6, 2021 Super User Posted July 6, 2021 I've probably caught more night time hot weather bass on a spinnerbait than most other baits I've tried. One that I had great luck with years ago was the Blakemore CC spinnerbait designed by Charlie Campbell. This spinnerbait featured a huge single colorado blade, which put out a lot of thump on the retrieve. Early on, we fished them with a #11 pork frog trailer, and later various plastic trailers. A 3/8 oz model seemed to work the best for us, with a steady slow retrieve, just fast enouph to get the blade turning. I wish they still made this lure- it was a good one. I remember reading an article in Bassmaster that said a single spin actually put out more vibration than a double spin, because two blades created a vortex effect. We eventually tried double blade spinnerbaits and caught fish on them too. But I think the single spin produced more fish overall. What are some of your favourite spinnerbaits for night fishing? 1 Quote

papajoe222 Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I like a Terminator with a double Colorado blade. Although I prefer to use a black one, I've caught fish with an all white version, too 2 Quote
YoTone Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Ive abandoned my black double Colorado spinnerbait for the snakehead chatterbait. I fish places that has that muck and the blades would get fouled up on it. the chatterbait with the guards seem to come out cleaner so its been my go to for a few years now. Quote
Captain Phil Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Spinnerbaits are great night fishing lures. The slow steady retrieve helps bass to track them down in the dark. The line stays tight all the time, almost guaranteeing a good hookup. One of the best night spinnerbaits was one that is no longer made, the Deadly Dudley. It had a single blade similar to a buzz bait, but it was pulled under the water. The spinning blade made a "whooshing" noise on every cast and it had a unique underwater sound. I have never used one, but I would think a blade bait like a Jackhammer would be terrific at night. In my youth, I fished many a hot summer night alone in the everglades. Caught a lot of big bass and was bitten by more than one mosquito. Funny the things you do when you think you will live forever. ? 2 Quote

I went about 10 days ago and that was the only lure I could get bit on while I was out there at night. Caught all 5 bass on it during my 2.5 hour expedition. 1 Quote
river-rat Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I use a 5/8 oz. short arm Zorro Aggravator most of the time. I also make a 5/8 oz. spinnerbait with a longer arm when I'm fishing in heavier cover. 1 Quote
