evo2s197 Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 I don't tolerate tardiness, if you're meeting me on an agreed time, me having to wait on someone that's late tells me that their time is more important than mine and is totally inconsiderate. Quote
David 7 Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Being late is a sign of disrespect, even if it’s not intended to be. Nothing stresses me out like running late, I don’t want someone to think I’m not respecting their time. Of course, frequent communication can lessen the offense. 4 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted July 5, 2021 Super User Posted July 5, 2021 I always tended to treat fishing like I treated my job. Be on time. It's that simple 1 Quote

walleyecrazy Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Early is on time. On time is late. And late is unacceptable. I do not do late, and definitely feel the same as most others here that being on time is a sign of respect. If I set a time with someone I am always there early, and never make someone wait. Quote
Goldstar225 Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I have always made a 15 minute time cushion, work, social or play. My wife on the other hand seems to think the world waits on her so for social occasions I tell her the start/arrival time is thirty minutes earlier than it actually is. It's worked so far. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 6, 2021 Global Moderator Posted July 6, 2021 Depends on the circumstances. To work, I'm on time. Fishing, I'm usually early, sometimes way early. I don't like waiting on anyone when I go fishing, probably a big part of why I've become so fond of fishing by myself the last few years, no worries about having to wait around for someone else. 2 Quote
Tim Kelly Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 My day job is a plumber. I work very locally generally and probably could earn a lot more money if I tried to squeeze more jobs into a day, but I prefer to be on time to each appointment. I'm more often there 30 minutes early than 10 minutes late, but I dislike being late and respect other people having lives where they don't need to be hanging around waiting for me to show up. If I turn up and they're not there though, they go on the **** list! Works both ways. Fishing, usually 1/2 to 2 hours early. Who can actually sleep when there's fishing the next day? 1 Quote
CountryboyinDC Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I used to show up early to everything. Then I joined the military. I learned that showing up early guarantees you end up "in charge of this detail", which is usually a job nobody wants. Now I try to make sure I'm never more than 5 minutes early, even if it means waiting somewhere else. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 6, 2021 Super User Posted July 6, 2021 I'm like that old saying, if you're waiting on me you're backing up! I grew up in an era when you were told work starts at 7 AM that meant tools in hand & working at 7! Now it's "I was here at 7", yea you were pulling into the parking lot at 7! 1 Quote

Super User GreenPig Posted July 6, 2021 Super User Posted July 6, 2021 Late? No sir that's against my religion. I will be on the water fishing before daylight. If you're late just have a seat on the dock and I'll swing by and get you when the topwater bite slows. Better hope it's not overcast. 1 Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Always been early, hate to even be remotely late. I feel like it is disrespectful to another person to be late for something that was planned ahead of time. Their time is just as important to them as mine is to me. Just my opinion. Oh and if my fishing partner is late he will be fishing from shore because I have the boat!? 1 Quote

I am almost always one of the first ones to get in the parking lot, uncover my boat, and leave for the launch. I've had a couple partners that slept later than me and I basically had to rush them to get them moving. I don't need any help just be ready to go when I am. I like to be sitting in the water sipping coffee and making last minute adjustments while the rest of the club is launching. You see the full range at buddy events. From 3 hours early to panicked phone calls because someone over slept. The guy that was out the night before stumbling with all his gear to jump on his buddy's boat at takeoff is solid entertainment. 1 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted July 6, 2021 Super User Posted July 6, 2021 I am always on time which usually means 10-15 early. To me when plans are made and someone is late they are basically saying they don't care about you and your time and their time is worth more than yours. 2 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 6, 2021 Global Moderator Posted July 6, 2021 I’m usually early but I sure wouldn’t leave a fishing buddy behind if he/she was late. I always just fish around the boat ramp until they arrive. What drives me bonkers way more than anyone being late is people always asking me “what time?” Oh my goodness that’s my pet peeve, from the moment I wake up everyday until I lay down to sleep people are asking me what time this what time that. It just makes me want to implode, I’ll friggin be there when I get there. If you have stuff to do, go on and do it!!!! If you can’t stay at home to have me come kill your mouse, well than you can just put on your adult pants and kill your own mouse then after work it’s my fishing buddies (who several are musicians and need a show time haha). “What time will you be at the ramp?” Well guys I don’t know, whenever I get off work, feed the dogs, then hook up the boat and go. “Well what time do you think that will be?” I don’t know, just go to the ramp and when you see me let’s go fishing then after fishing, she’s asking “what time will you be back?” Well honey we fish til dark then idle back to the ramp, same as every single time in history. “What time do you think that will be?” It doesn’t matter because it won’t be early enough for her regardless of the numbers on a clock then wake up next day and it’s “what time can you come throw away my dead mouse?” Well let’s see I’ve got 15 live traps to check all over town, maybe magic 8 ball knows what time 1 1 Quote

It bothered me if I’m late, so it doesn’t happen. What sucks is when my fishing buddy is late. Haha. Honestly as I’ve gotten older, I realized my schedule is on me. I can’t expect everyone to move to my precise time constraints. My friends are late. I know it, and they are still good friends. just a bummer when I’m 20 minutes early and someone is 20 minutes late. Are you on time or a late runner? Today is no big deal since we can’t launch our kayaks unless the cashier takes our launch fee. There is no self-pay station. nap time. My sister in law and one of her daughters is late to EVERYTHING. Set a time and they'll be a half hour late, minimum. My dad drilled into me to not make people wait. It's like saying "My time is more valuable than yours." It's rude and inconsiderate, especially if chronic and they never apologize. I wouldn't leave them, but I would voice my displeasure. The guys I'd fish with wouldn't be offended by that. If it's a regular enough problem, I'd stop asking them. If they asked me I'd say "Sure, but be on time this time." 19 hours ago, evo2s197 said: I don't tolerate tardiness, if you're meeting me on an agreed time, me having to wait on someone that's late tells me that their time is more important than mine and is totally inconsiderate. I was scheduled to meet a guy who wanted to buy an Ambassadeur reel from me. He showed up 15 minutes late and asked me to take less money because that's all he had on him. I lit him up. I said after he was late, I'd keep the reel before taking less than agreed upon. I told him there's an ATM across the highway and I'd follow him there. Quote
Guitarfish Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 Selling probably involves some kind of moron 15% of the time. I had an ad on a forum for some reels priced under value easily by $15 each. A guy says 'I'll take them', which effectively shuts the sale down to others. He then proceeds to send a private message two hours later saying he will take all three for $50 bucks under asking, if I throw in free shipping. It took me 15 minutes before I could politely turn him down. He's probably the late paying type too. 1 Quote
