papajoe222 Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Share something you saw this holiday week-end, that really made you question the sanity of the person(s) involved. It can be something safety related, or just plain hilarious. Personally, I stayed off the water because my tow vehicle puked on my way home from a fishing trip. I did, however, see three guys in a 12ft. jon boat motoring away from the launch as I headed in on Thursday. If they didn't capsize, someone was watching over them because that little boat was all but under water as they motored out. All anyone of them had to do was rock the boat a little and they'd have taken on water. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 5, 2021 Global Moderator Posted July 5, 2021 I went fishing on the 3rd and everyone actually acted like sane human beings, that was pretty crazy. 2 2 Quote
ironbjorn Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 From work. This was eye popping but also funny and very true: I had to work today (the 4th). Our manager thanked us for coming in. One of the guys sarcastically said, "Thanks for giving us a choice because we definitely picked this over taking our kids to see fireworks." America, always about money, never about people. Even on its birthday celebrating freedom. 1 Quote
Super User Koz Posted July 5, 2021 Super User Posted July 5, 2021 I stayed off the water this weekend. I was really tempted to head out on Sunday, but decided that the frustration would not be worth it. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 5, 2021 Global Moderator Posted July 5, 2021 I was on the water all weekend, saw a cool Yankee Doodle hat and surfed some waves, fish were biting pretty good on the 4th Quote

I think the stupidest thing I saw was there was a parent and kid at the 4th of July parade riding bikes in between the moving floats, they got kicked out but I just cannot understand the stupidity of the parent in this case. In the case of fishing the most stupid person I have seen was in trout fishing. I was fishing a stream and I sadly says "trout"! And walks into the stream with her dog to chase them knowing I was fishing that hole. It's California though so I really am not surprised, seems like we have all the braindead people in the nation when it comes to this stuff. When I'm 40 I want to move, any state but California. The crowds and lack of common sense is what may kill me faster 1 1 Quote
BustedSwimbait Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 I went out to the lake with the intention of some fun people watching, but everyone was civilized. Quite the sight. Brightside, no one was fishing. So, I was able to hit the bank for a quick minute. Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 6, 2021 Super User Posted July 6, 2021 Just before I left the pond yesterday, an angler who was casting a spinnerbait from shore wound up like a MLB pitcher for a moon shot on what was likely his last cast of the day. It was. He reared back and heaved that bait with gusto. But his spinnerbait got caught in an overhanging limb. All I heard was “Bam!” and saw a shower of leaves and the last 2’ of his rod depart this vale of tears. He grabbed his tackle, walked to his car and drove off without delay. 2 4 Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I seen my grill full of food and cold beer in my hand!! Wasn't going to the lake for amateur hour!! Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted July 7, 2021 Super User Posted July 7, 2021 Luckily a massive cold front kept the lakes somewhat sane this weekend in New England but yesterday I did see a paddleboarder take an unplanned plunge into the thickest, nastiest patch of lily pads in the whole lake. 1 Quote
Tatsu Dave Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Round these parts having a party on the launch ramp seems to be the holiday thing to do. Lucky they take one look at my boy in the bow and start moving ? Quote

WVU-SCPA Posted July 9, 2021 Posted July 9, 2021 Decided to avoid the lakes at all cost last weekend. Unfortunately had a fatality/drowning at the closest lake. Afraid it won't be the last this year, too crowded and some many people not having a clue what they are doing. Hoping for some rain tomorrow to keep the pontoon parade at bay during tournament hours. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 9, 2021 Super User Posted July 9, 2021 I ran out to the local conservation site on Sunday. I was the only one on the water all morning and around 11 AM I started to think that maybe they shut the lake down and I missed the sign. As I was heading in 5 or 6 more people pulled up to the boat ramp, so I called it a day. Quote
