Russ E Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 6 foot to 7 foot it depends on how tall you are. I am 6ft. 1in. A 6ft 10 inch works perfectly for me. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted July 4, 2021 Super User Posted July 4, 2021 I like 6’6”-7’ with the former preferred more. The shorter length just feels more “wieldable” and has less of chance striking things below on account of being shorter. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted July 4, 2021 Super User Posted July 4, 2021 Typically anywhere between 6' - 7'2" depending how high off the water you are. 6'8" works very well for me in most situations. Quote
Kenny Yi Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 6'10" is my preferred size, I've used 7' as well Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 4, 2021 Super User Posted July 4, 2021 I usually use 6'6" or 7'0" depending on the bait, and where I'm fishing. Quote
Drew03cmc Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 I toss a 6'8" Legend X for jerk baits, both wading and from my kayak. Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted July 4, 2021 Super User Posted July 4, 2021 Undoubtedly you'll notice that some people fish jerkbaits from a bass boat, standing up. Some people fish jerkbaits from a kayak, sitting down. And some people (like me) fish them from shore. Three different heights relative to the water, three different fulcrums. How do you fish? jj Quote
NavyVet Posted July 4, 2021 Author Posted July 4, 2021 I usually fish them from the back of a "small" bass boat. Due to back problems, I find the need to sit more than I would like to as I fish. I am only about 5 ft. 8in. tall. 1 Quote

This mimics the height above water level when you sit in the boat. Take a rod and draw an "X" on the floor in front of you. Whichever rod length allows you to do that the easiest and with the greatest control is the length of rod for you. 1 Quote

ErieCan Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 I'm 6'1" and find a 6'8" rod works well on the boat. I like a shorter handle on it as well. Quote

Deephaven Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Only rod I own under 7' is my jerk bait rod. 6'8" is what I chose but a couple inches longer could work from my boat Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 5, 2021 Global Moderator Posted July 5, 2021 I use a 6', 6' 2", 6' 8", and 6' 10". All of them work for different baits and situations. Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted July 5, 2021 Super User Posted July 5, 2021 I use a 6' rod for jerkbaits but I'm one these people that fish sitting down. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 6, 2021 Super User Posted July 6, 2021 I use a 6'6'' G. Loomis 783C GLX. I haven't found anything better yet. Quote
WMG Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 6-6’10 is a good range, i had a 6’4 medium xf fenwick aetos that was absolutely perfect for most jerkbaits, sadly i broke it. Now i use a 6’6 mh moderate fast falcon bucou (spelling?) that’s really good for megabass 110 sized baits. Quote
