For those of you who take a stance against shopping at certain retailers, this isn't for you.

We have one F&S store in our area that sits side by side with a DSG, and it has a fantastic fishing section. Lotsa goodies. There are many opportunities for marked down items, but many are marked up significantly compared to major online retailers like TW. Typically, I shop online in order to avoid the 30 minute drive to this F&S, but sometimes I need, or want, something pronto. I was running low on VMC Touch-Loks, and a few miscellaneous Owner hooks, etc, so I needed to make the trip. Turns out some of the stuff I wanted was marked down to 1/2 price, which was great, but the Gantarel Jr I was thinking about was marked up $8 over most online sellers. $39.99 vs $31.99. At checkout I brought up a TW screen showing the price difference, and they matched it. 8 bux is 8 bux. I've done this a number of times there, and have never been met with resistance. It's their policy, so what the hey. Don't be shy.

If you find a better price on another website, you can do this with tacklewarehouse too.

I think it is pretty cool companies do this.

I have done this at least 5 or 6 times in the past year that I’ve been to DSG. Their prices are routinely marked higher than msrp but they aren’t hesitant to reduce it if you ask.

To each their own, but I don't think it is fair to the retailer that already has it marked down.

This happened to me when I purchased my last car.  While shopping at the second dealer,,,,after negotiations,,, and about to walk, they said they would match the previous  dealers price.  I kept walking back to the first dealer.

Of course there are many variables and don't judge one way or the other.  I just put myself in the shoes of the original vendor.

Truth be told I don't mind paying more at mom and pops, which isn't the case with big box.

I just go to the other places - Scheels and Fleet Farm aren't that much further from me than DSG, their stock is more complete, and the prices are better.

Example: InvizX line; DSG $24.99, Scheels $20.99, Fleet Farm $19.99

I shop at all of those places in person. DSG is a little closer and more convenient for me than Fleet Farm, Scheels, or Cabelas. I personally think Fleet Farm has the best prices, but they are often low or out of stock. Cabelas has the best selection but getting there kinda sucks right now with all the road construction on 94.

Omnia is slowly gaining more business from me because of the convenient location.

You must hit the Brooklyn Park store as it's closer to you. I've never had issues finding what I need at Carver.

That one is pretty good. Bigger, newer, and more stock.

TW is out of stock on the Gantarel Jr, but even if they weren't, I need this for a trip on Wednesday, and with their extended shipping times, forget that. BTW, TW isn't the only online retailer that sells it for $31.99. THT is also out.

Me either, but we don't have much to choose from as I'm on an island, and most B&Ms here cater heavily to the salt crowd. The only one that has a little bit of freshwater stuff is run by schmucks, so...

The only thing I have close to me is a DSG and I always have them price match.  They will price match and then take their coupons so I usually end up with a pretty good deal.   It does drive me crazy how over priced they are on fishing gear though.

Wasn't being critical or any disrespect intended. I was commenting on the basic subject of price matching.  Of course several factors come into play that change the situation.

I can relate too much to this thread, so I just had to post. I've been going to DSG, their prices are wayyy too high, but always have them PM to TW, and they do it very easily. Works out when I need some tackle right away, etc. On the other hand, it sure is ironic that amazon will not price match! haha I don't mind jacking these big retailers around a bit, but a mom and pop store definitely is different.

I'm a little surprised they match an internet price. The shipping is already paid by the brick & mortar store. But you still have another shipping fee to pay with the TW item. Good for you!

The wife and I were looking to trade her car on a new Toyota Highlander. The first dealer we talked to offered us $3900 in trade. But they didn't have one on the lot with everything she wanted. We went on to another dealer who had it and his price was better. But he offered us $1900 in trade. We told him it had already been valued by another dealer at $3900. He gave it to us without batting an eye. LOL. I hate car shopping, but this was by far the best experience. Hassle free.

The Dick's near me has a seasonal fishing department. Early spring they increase the area and add a lot more. In late summer, they trim it down and use the space for hunting. So you can really catch some clearance stuff if you're looking. Sadly, it seems whoever purchases for them doesn't know much about fishing. And they LOVE the gimmick lures.

Won’t last long if they don’t. And very few people actually take the time to ask. Or they feel bad or whatever. I don’t mind going where the best deal is, but these stores would be stupid not to “reward” your loyalty and respect that you’d rather buy it from them.

Besides, they’re getting the extra $8 from everyone else.

I requested a price match on a TV at best buy a year or so ago and the guy in the store checked all the other places they price match and got me another $70 off, because it was even cheaper somewhere else. If you do ask, that guy told me to ask which other stores they price match to get the best deal.
