mcnealstash Posted July 3, 2021 Posted July 3, 2021 I am wanting to move away from treble hooks on all of my baits... I just feel bad when I end up snagging fish in extra places and causing more damage than I otherwise would if I were using single hooks instead. The fisheries I go to are pressured and I want to do what I can to protect the fish a little better, even if my hook up ratio goes down. Are there any general sizing rules for swapping out trebles to singles? And does anyone have any single hook recommendations for the vision 110 & jr. to balance the bait or singles they recommend for hard baits in general? 1 Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted July 3, 2021 Posted July 3, 2021 The Owner single replacement hooks work really well. Getting real precisely balanced JBs to suspend with the singles can be a chore, but it is possible. There is a formula for the size hook equivalent, but again that doesn't take weight into account, hope this helps. Quote
Happybeerbuzz Posted July 3, 2021 Posted July 3, 2021 If you have a lot of baits, it might be worth your while to spend $25 on a cheap jewelry scale that measures down to the thousandth of a gram. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted July 3, 2021 Super User Posted July 3, 2021 Nope, JBs get crazy sharp (technical term) light wire round bend trebles without exception. Will you hook them with singles when they are chocking them? sure, but when I'm relying on the JB to get it done, I want the ones that are only window shopping too. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted July 3, 2021 Super User Posted July 3, 2021 The other solution to your problem would be trying just the rear treble hook. Remove the front hook & the middle hook if one exists. Most fish eat a jerk bait from the rear in my experience. You will have to experiment with balancing each bait based on the change. Quote
Super User NHBull Posted July 3, 2021 Super User Posted July 3, 2021 I don't think trebles on a JB are a problem, but if you must, get a good scale designed for coffee. They are super accurate in the range you will be weighing. I have also seen a few guys cut on hook off the trebles to make them more boyant and not effect the hook up ratio Quote
