Super User Darth-Baiter Posted July 1, 2021 Super User Posted July 1, 2021 I recently had to sprint my kayak alongside my buddy when he got into a bigger bass. His tiny minnow net wasn’t gonna cut it. We got it. even my net: a modified trout fishing net has its limitations. Even My spare net is only marginally larger. ( G2 net). I do take the bigger net to Clearlake. I never have laid eyes or hands on a DD bass. They have to be leviathan like right? I remember netting a rouge musky for my brother with our bass net. Fun! any stories? sorry. I’m bored before my next Microsoft Teams meeting. Quote
NoShoes Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Ive never seen a DD either, but did pull in a 9 lber. I know that isn’t much compared to many on here, but the shear size of a fish that size is impressive. I use a rather large net, my wife is usually the net girl and isn’t necessarily the best so a big net makes me feel better. The fish made the net look small. I then put the fish in my tracker 175’s live well, which I thought was pretty big. The fish took up most of it too. if you’re targeting fish of that size plan accordingly, it’s a different world. txchaser Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Hooked a roughly 36 inch catfish on a flutter spoon. There was no way that thing was ever making it in the net, and that net has seen some big-ol bass. This thing was rolling and twisting on the surface and my buddy kept trying to get it in there. It was never going to happen. But I still give him grief about it. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 2, 2021 Global Moderator Posted July 2, 2021 I've put some pretty good sized hybrids in my kayak net no problem. Usually when I get a fish too big for my net, it comes with it's own built in handle to grab them, so it's not a problem. 3 Quote

I like when I can get something that does multiple uses. Quote

I've got a huge net in my boat, might have been able to fit that thing in there and it does have a lift assist on it for picking up big fish, but I just grabbed it by the jaw instead of risking breaking my net. https://www.frabill.com/nets/by-series/trophy/trophy-haul-power-extend 1 Quote
galyonj Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Every time I think I need to get me a net, at least for the boat, I set the hook on a six-inch dink and it comes rocketing towards me like a TOW missile. Then I think "if they're just gonna boat flip themselves like that, maybe I don't need to worry too much about the net." Quote
GRiver Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 I got ya, I thought it had a fish grabber as a handle just turn it around…. Hey, we might be on to something!!!! Quote
