Dr.T Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Second day out with this new rod. I set the hook on a fish and my reel goes flying off the rod. I look down and see the reel seat snapped. I hold the reel down with one hand and reel the fish in with my other. Not a happy angler. Anyone have experience with Abu's warranty service? Pics here http://imgur.com/gallery/PS2q5mN 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted July 1, 2021 Super User Posted July 1, 2021 Deft in Design Fierce in Fortitude, Even the Biggest Bass is no match. Abu Garcia designed reel seat. It's probably no accident you pay a little more to get get Fuji. My nano-resin rod from a Japan boutique maker cost $400 (they don't need to spend on marketing - their rods always sell out the same day they show in inventory). I'm guessing Abu is finding corners to cut to match with the blank technology they tell you that you Need. I've paid twice a Veritas for good old IM6 hand made USA blank - full Fuji hardware - it's heavy, which the Veritas isn't. I'm guessing you'll have a good warranty result. Quote

Would you have a recommendation on a good 6'6" MHF rod that can throw 1/4 to 1oz lures? I got this rod just because those specs seem real appealing for an all purpose single setup that I can take anywhere. 1 Quote

Super User Spankey Posted July 1, 2021 Super User Posted July 1, 2021 I throw a couple of Veritas Winch casting rods. All is going fine. The front of my reel seats doesn’t not resemble yours. I don’t like the way it looks and question the function of it as far as proper reel grip. But I do see the crack in the rear part of the seat. Not sure of the generation of rod. That fish is a peanut and can’t see that is being part of the problem. Fit, fit stress and or alignment of reel most likely the issue. They will replace it. Good luck. 1 Quote

Megabass has their very spendy Evolution in 6'8" I would peruse Asian Portal and other good JDM vendors for Megabass F5 rods to get that lure range. If you can find it in Levante, it's under $300. Here's a $240 Major Craft 6'6" and good inventory. For go anywhere, here's a $220 Major Craft 4-pc This is a wide range on the other end - BFS 1/16 to 5/8 - but this extremely light-in-hand Valleyhill has a Metal reel seat. Noteworthy, this is a fast rod with nothing tippy. 1 Quote

Super User bulldog1935 Posted July 1, 2021 Super User Posted July 1, 2021 There's a reason the Fuji tag on a new rod helps to sell that rod. 2 Quote
Diggy Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Abu customer service is great. They will probably ship you a new rod without making you send that back. Wouldn't be surprised if you end up with a new PLX model 1 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted July 2, 2021 Super User Posted July 2, 2021 Abu has a lot of experience replacing veritas rods you should be fine. 1 1 Quote

The OG Veritas was my 1st rod in the $100 price point zone, which seemed expensive at the time. I am interested in the new model just to see how it fishes in comparison to the old days. I have moved up to higher end rods ?, but I probably caught more fish on that OG model than all my other rods combined, including some monster snakeheads. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted July 4, 2021 Super User Posted July 4, 2021 I have never owned a Veritas, but I know several people who own plenty and have not had too many issues. Maybe they were older models. I have heard their customer service is pretty good. Quote

I got the ML spinning model and it fishes great. Plenty of power and sensitivity. The new Veritas all white PLX rods are getting rave reviews by many including Pros who are surprised at the quality / price point of the new Veritas PLX rod offering . They are sold out every where - but when possible I will be bringing home the PLX bait cast model in a 7' M/F as a fine utility rod to be used for various applications (mostly top water with braid) . Super User Spankey Posted July 6, 2021 Super User Posted July 6, 2021 Their moderate actions have been working out great for me. The medium power Winch series fall right in line with my lure weights. Rods load up real well and I like the cast ability. Can’t beat the price. I’m considering one more Veritas in their line up of rods. Quote
desmobob Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I bought a pair of Veritas 2.0 7' M/F at more than 50% off retail several years ago... I couldn't resist the price. They're still hanging in the rafters in the basement and this thread got me to rig one up and cast it in the back yard. Seems like a nice handling rod. I'll throw one or both of them in the boat with my Kistler KLXs and fish them soon. They seem like a very good value (if they hold up). I've never used Abu's customer service, but they seem to have a good reputation. I hope they take care of you. Quote
