Beare300 Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 I am going to buy a new rod in the Victory/E6X price range and I’m curious if anyone has used both of these and can compare them. I was completely set on getting one of the e6x MBR, but have read great things on the St Croix Victory. Any information would be greatly appreciated Quote
evo2s197 Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 G.Loomis has some good rods in their lineup, but the E6X series is not one of them, they just aren't good, much better options for that price range, the St. Croix Victory series being one of them, also look at anything Daiwa or Shimano "even though G.Loomis is under the Shimano umbrella"in the same price range. 1 Quote

GetFishorDieTryin Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 E6X are good rods but your getting a rod that's about = to the newer premiers for $200+. Whats nice about the E6X's is they make a ton of different options. If the model you want is available in the Victory, you would get more for your money. Wouldn't surprise me if GL eventually upgrades the E6X to try to close the gap with other rods at the price point especially the Victory. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted June 29, 2021 Super User Posted June 29, 2021 For me the MBR tapers are the selling point for the lower-end Loomis rods. I would take a 783c or 844c in a lesser blank over a St Croix M/F or MH/F in a slightly better blank. When it comes to XFast rods, my opinion is reversed and I much prefer St Croix's take on them to Loomis'. Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 29, 2021 Super User Posted June 29, 2021 Casting or spinning, length? Tom Quote
padon Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 idk just my opinion but i never liked the e6x. id go victory or zodias at that price point. Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 30, 2021 Super User Posted June 30, 2021 The Loomis E6X was Shimano effort to capitalize on the Loomis name with a entry rod series. The+St Croix Victory series rods are state of the art light rod blanks ( USA made) well made with reel seats and guidecwell worth the price range. The Victory series currently has a limited variety of models available. Shimano Zodias are proud of the Made in China printed on the rod handle. Tom Quote
Happybeerbuzz Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 I got an E6X, 6'6" MH casting rod off an auction site. l believe it to be pre 2018 version which is suppose to be heavier than the current version. It is a good rod and in my regular line up. Having said that, I think I would risk the new Victory rod if I were to choose to get a rod right now. People reviewing the new rod seem overjoyed with their purchases where I am just satisfied even though I did not pay anywhere near MSRP. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 30, 2021 Global Moderator Posted June 30, 2021 I have never fished an E6X, but I have held many in stores and they just feel underwhelming for the price point. I've got many hours with a Victory rod on the water and have been very happy with it. A couple of my biggest fish of the year have been caught with it in fact. Quote

Schuyler co Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 I own both rods…my opinion it’s not even close, Victory is a far better rod. Had some good use out of the E6X but replaced it with a Zodias which is also a better rod in my opinion. Quote
DomQ Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Victory rod feels great, love the grip as well. The zodias rods are much better then the E6X in my opinion. Feel much stronger and better balance overall. Quote
Beare300 Posted June 30, 2021 Author Posted June 30, 2021 Thank you very much to everyone their insight on these 2 rods. I had a good feeling that I was leaning towards the Victory, but I have an older G.Loomis SBR 813c (the burgundy colored one) that I absolutely love. I’m wanting another rod in the $200 range and I had been looking at the e6x for quite some time, but then when the Victory released the reviews on it were just fantastic and e6x reviews were underwhelming. Thanks again everyone, this is a fantastic forum Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 30, 2021 Super User Posted June 30, 2021 I would get a Dobyns Sierra in that price range. Quote
Derek1 Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Falcon expert is also in the $200 price range. 3 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted June 30, 2021 Super User Posted June 30, 2021 I am a loomis guy and can say there are better options at the pic point of the e6x. Alpha rods are often overlooked and shouldn't be ( hint) Quote
TBAG Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Like everyone else has said, many better options than the E6X. The Zodias is an awesome rod for the price. Also, with a sale happening you can score a Dobyns Sierra for way under $200. Quote

Tom no doubt the zodias is made in china. i own 8 st.croix legend tournament rods. but for $100 less made in china or not the zodias is lighter and just as sensitive in my hands. wouldnt keep me from buying another st.croix just saying its a real nice rod in the $200 range. Hulkster Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 i think the first generation (2015) E6X rods were hit and miss. However Loomis revamped the whole line up in 2018 and they are much better. lighter and better balanced. (they must have listened) I have 2 of them and like them a lot (MBR903c and JWR892S) I would go E6X for a few reasons: 1. I like full cork (Victory rods use EVA foam) 2. I like the exposed blank on the baitcasting models (Victory does not have this) 3. as previously mentioned there so many models with awesome tapers and lengths available. Quote

Loomis E6X was introduced over 8 years ago adding models, Victory is new. SC Victory is adding new models by September. The E6X was a disappointment or Loomis fans , several rods in it’s price point are superior workmanship, guide trains, feedback and 25% lighter weight for equal rods. Tom Quote

thunderblack Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Haven't handled the victory line but I have owned several of SC's top tier rods down to avid and I also have handled and fished E6X. They are nice light rods and fish well at their price point. I enjoy them. Quote
