Has anyone had any luck with a decent fishing scale that is fairly reliable?

I bought a new Berkley scale to keep in my kayak and caught a decent fish last week. When I went to weigh it, it wouldn't turn on. Sadly it seemed fairly accurate when I tested it out when I first got it. I have another Rapala and it generally works too, but the heat has warped it a little bit although that lasted a few years and many fish at least.

I'm wondering what I should replace it with.

Boga grip

I was looking at those. They are pricey, but I imagine reliable.

What a Boga lacks in accuracy, it adds in durability, reliability and versatility.  It rocks at boating big pike, bowfin and channel cats and greatly reduces the risks involved with lipping bass that are hooked on hard baits with multiple trebles while allowing a decent weight reading at the same time (with no batteries to replace or be dead when you really need them).

Order one, cry about the price until it shows up, then forget all about the money spent when you realize what a great tool it is...

I have gone through many scales.  None of them were accurate for very long.  I have had the boga for several years and it is still accurate.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna seriously consider the Bogagrip, although if I could find something small that fits in my life vest that would be good too.

I have to replace a rod my kid lost so I have an order upcoming as it is, I'll tack on a scale.

I use the same Accu Cull as @A-Jay and it is the best I have tried. I had the Berkley and the Rapala, both junk in my opinion.

I use the cheap digital luggage scale. The one I have now is 2/3 years old and still works fine. They don't like to get wet, but most electronics don't. You can get them on Ebay for around $5 shipped, or order straight from overseas for even cheaper. I've got 1 in the boat, 1 in the kayak box, and 1 in my bank fishing bag.

KastKing Waterproof Floating Digital Fishing Scale with No-Puncture Lip Gripper. Dual Mode - Pounds/Ounces & Kilograms. 0-50 Lbs/22.68 Kg, Lightweight ABS Frame, Non-Slip Handle.
Kastking waterproof floating scale. This is the scale I use when kayak fishing. You can get it wet and if it falls over the side it floats.

I thought it was broke last year after 2 years of use. Turns out it just needed a new battery ?

This topic has been beaten to death lately.

Get rid of the metal hook and use a gripper please.

Or you can use a measuring board since length is a more universal, accurate measurement.  Scales are inaccurate and need to be calibrated unless everyone is using the same one like at a tournament weigh in.

I really like the Rapala tournament scale for culling in tournaments.   I have found it accurate and being able to see 8 bins (fish weights) on the screen at the same time is a real plus for culling.  Mine is 4 years old and going strong.  Most of my buddies have them too and they are also going strong.

The scales Boga uses are incredibly accurate as long as you know how to read it.

My first Boga is nearly 20 years old and its been beaten to death and is till spot on.  Bogas minimize damage to fish as well, especially tooth ones.  They're the kind of thing you buy once and it lasts the rest of your life in most cases.  If you plan to use it on a boat or yak put a float on the lanyard.

This is the one I have - modified to replace the hook with a carabiner to clip a Rapala grip into. I've done some home calibration checks and it seems pretty accurate.

Sorry, I searched for threads and all I found were really old and made up of discontinued models.

I was looking at this one too as well as the high contrast digital scale. The cheaper Rapala that I keep in my tackle bag has been fairly reliable for me other than the screen warping somewhat.

I even use the Rapala scale to check my 5 bass limit while pre fishing or just for fun while out for the day.  It is just so easy and when weighing in at tournaments, my scale is always really close to my final weight.

I actually got one for like $10 from Amazon called Dr. Meter and it worked great and was accurate. The batteries lasted a long time and I took it kayaking, so it got wet a lot and kept on working. The only negative is that it only weighs in pounds, like 4.7 and you'd have to convert the .7 lbs. to ounces if you needed to.

But anyway, I lost mine at the end of last season so I bought another and it's been updated to store like 7 or so weights on it. It also fits in one of the smaller Velcro pockets on my NRS Chinook Life PFD.

That is the one I have too.  Rarely use it though as I prefer to measure my fish.

I had one of those Rapala ones that run off a 9V battery. Only one problem with it. Bass are always about a pound less than I thought they would be. ? It gave up the ghost Saturday. I weighed a 6.1 lb in the morning, then I caught one bigger later in the day, but couldn't weigh it. It's a decent scale, but the battery and the connection corrode and the wire pulled out as I was trying to separate them. So I have this on order. But it won't come until the 6th at the earliest. Any big gals I am fortunate enough to catch before then won't get weighed.

Now isn't this the problem we all have?
