I own a nitro x5.  Does the deep cycle battery in my boat only run the trolling motor? And the cranking battery on my boat runs everything else like the GPS/Fishfinders, live wells, navigation lights, bilge pump?  I am trying to figure out what the deep cycle and cranking battery power up.

i suggest you set up an appointment with the dealer that sold you the boat to go over the thing from bow to stern.

It is important that you understand the layout as well as what does what. Will keep you on the water instead of sitting at the dock wondering. The first boat I purchased was like a jigsaw puzzle to me. It is time well spent.

I actually saw a guy out on the water filling his livewells with a glass because it was new and he could not figure out how to turn on the pump to fill them up.

Good luck

I wish someone would have given me this advise when I bought my boat. You will eventually learn this stuff on your own, but it will save you a lot of time, aggravation, and probably cash having a dealer walk you through it.

On my boat, I installed a "1/2/both/off battery" switch. I run the motor with the switch on "both", then switch to "1" while fishing, using the trolling motor, sonor, radio, submersible lights, etc. Then switch to "2" to start. After starting, I switch to "both" to charge both batteries while running. That way  battery "2" is a dedicated starting battery and I never have to worry about not having a charged battery for engine starts.

Did you get he batteries figured out? The starting battery is just for the starting of the boat and running lights and the trolling battery is for all the rest?

Not on my boat. The TM batterys run the TM, and the cranking battery runs everything else.

Man I must have been tired last night because my post didn't say what I was thinking hahahaha.

You are right the starting battery should be running everything except the trolling motor. The trolling batteries should only be hooked to the trolling motor. Good coffee in the morning can make you see much better.

Jim, lack of coffee or good sippin whiskey can do that at times.
