I broke my shoulder without knowing it and fished a lot, went to the doctor a couple weeks later, and what do you know... You need to ease off just a tad on those hook-sets. 1 Quote
Dye99 Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 I fished early morning Friday, then again this morning...Think the sun got ahold of me. Tired, worn down. Respect that big yella ball up there. She is a mean teacher. 1 Quote

Does that count?? I could've laid home & hurt or fished & hurt. I fished. You’re pretty tough! My wife has had many kidney stone, and several of them have laid her out! On a party boat, I fished next to a guy who was susceptible to seasickness. I would look over, and he would be hauling in fish; next thing I knew he’d be puking over the side. After one big episode, he smiled and said “ really wish I didn’t like fishing so much!” 1 Quote

Super User Bird Posted July 3, 2021 Super User Posted July 3, 2021 Wow, some tough cookies here. I once got bitten by a horse fly while fishing, that's about it.....that's all I got to say about that. Lol BUT, my youngest brother spent the entire week in bed on an epic corribian cruise due to sea sickness.....next time he wore the patch. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 4, 2021 Super User Posted July 4, 2021 No, never sick. But I have been known to throw my fish back, trailer the boat, and go home during a tournament when it got in the upper 90s with no clouds and I was getting exhausted. Glad they found the problem and you are on the road to a full recovery. 1 Quote
TheBasslayer Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 Luckily I haven’t gotten sick while fishing, although I fished after I stepped on a nail; it went through my shoe but it didn’t hurt too bad at first. Then it hurt afterwards. Quote

Super User Boomstick Posted July 4, 2021 Super User Posted July 4, 2021 Never. But I rarely get sick either. To me, getting sick is being really tired and achy, sleeping until 3pm and then watching TV for the rest of the day and feeling fine the next day. I'm fortunate like that. Quote
desmobob Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 I went out on a salmon charter out of Westport, WA many years ago with my brother-in-law. He suggested I take some Dramamine the night before. "Are you kidding? That stuff is for p***ies! I spend all my free time on the water!" I told him. Yeah... fresh water. I did a lot of chumming but never stopped fishing. And we laughed a lot about it. I think that helped me get through the very long day. I had a friend who, despite being very careful, got Montezuma's Revenge while we were on a saltwater fly fishing trip on the southern Baja. He was down for a day but got some help from a guy on the same trip who was, believe it or not, an older veterinarian who had just started med school (human type) and had brought the best drugs for it, just in case. I got a norovirus at the completion of a six-day bicycle trip across Kansas. It was a big organized ride and lots of folks got sick. I was lucky in that I finished the ride before I got it. I had scheduled two extra days in Kansas City, MO at the end of the ride to sample some barbecue joints and go out on the town before I went home. I ended up spending both days on the bathroom floor of my motel room and was just barely well enough to get on the plane to get home and back to work on time. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted July 5, 2021 Super User Posted July 5, 2021 Ive never been sick once while fishing. The first time I went deep sea fishing My wife , middle son, and daughter all got badly seasick. I went fishing with a friend once that swallowed his wad of red man. You can imagine the result of that. I did have the Quickstep once when we were camping in the Ocala forest. We had ran out of water on the second day, and it was a long way to a store, so we drank the water that had been ice in the cooler…before long we were all behind palmettos lol… 1 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted July 5, 2021 Super User Posted July 5, 2021 Not fishing, but I caught the flu while elk bow-hunting. It was three years ago, and I got a pretty good tag. Lottery system. Took 10 years to draw do I tried to motor thru. You cannot sneak up on an elk with a cough. Slight fever, and aches. Total misery. It was snowing the entire time. Hunt ended at Christmas. Freezing. No nurse wife to take care of me… I oddly have not hunted since. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 5, 2021 Super User Posted July 5, 2021 For almost two full days in October 2018 I almost got really sick - of catching 5 - 6 lbs green bass; over & over. Especially while my friend, Big Fish Jeff, was hauling in 8's, 9's & 10's. I said Almost . . . A-Jay 2 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 6, 2021 Global Moderator Posted July 6, 2021 My buddy got something called campylobacter (sp?) on our camping trip in Alabama once, he had to be extracted by his dad and was in a bad way for a couple weeks after. He used to get sick on the last day of a week long trip nearly every year, he’s since found out through diet experimentation (doctors failed dozens of times at figuring this out throughout his life ) that he is lactose intolerant and allergic to wheat. Now he is rarely sick. Not sure how on earth doctors missed this for over a decade but at least he’s always feeling good now 1 Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I’ve felt like death before because of lack of sleep. I’ve slept on life jackets on a John boat. And canoes. Slept in the woods used my fishin bag as my pillow. I’ve done many all nighters. Both fresh and salt. I used to work till 11pm on Friday nights. So I’d work all day. Either sleep for 2 -3 hours get up super early. Drive to the spot and sleep. Or fish all night. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 6, 2021 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 6, 2021 I was in a team tournament with my wife. We had 2 good fish in the livewell, and was in a really good area. Then my stomach rolled over. 15 mins later, I was puking over the side of the boat and going downhill fast. I managed to drive the boat back to the ramp, where (fortunately) our truck with the camper attached was parked. I jumped out and headed inside my camper while my wife fished solo the rest of the day. My situation deteriorated, and after a long sleepless night, we packed it up and went home (she drove). Went straight to the ER after unhitching the boat. Turns out I had food poisoning and was severely dehydrated from all the vomiting. Got a few bags of IV fluid and some meds to calm my stomach down. A few days later and I was good as new. 2 Quote

We used to do suicide trips to upstate Ny in the fall for salmon brown and steelhead. 7.5 hour drive. We would leave at midnight Saturday, drive all night, fish all day Saturday. Half day Sunday and come home! 1 Quote
