Hi.

I'm looking to go down to Guntersville AL in September/October with my boat. It's a long two day trip. Been there twice now with just a car and rented a boat. That lake is MASSIVE  72 miles long. Is there any places that cater to tourist fishing of sorts. I've checked it out and only found one guy who did it and 2 other lakes part time.

Any info would be appreciated.  Man it's so big I had to use my Garmin GPS to get back to the dock last time, and that was around the park.

Mike carter used to run a lot of trips down there. I would guess the state park down near the dam or goose pond would be the most fishermen friendly places. They didn’t really take too kindly to out-of-towners at the local shops/restaurants when I was down there! Haha. There was a definite “you’re going to kill our lake” vibe

Thanks.

My only info came from the states tackle shop on a bulletin board.

Haha?

I got the same vibe at a hotel right on the lake in Guntersville. At that time there were 4 or 5 speed boats there and the entire hotel shook when they fired up. The park people were great, gave me a great deal on renting a 17 foot tracker for the day.

Oh I wouldn't recommend that hotel, you hear Jake brakes all night long. Only hotel listed in Guntersville that o could find. Started with a "W".

Guide: Lonnie Cochran is great.

Hotels: Scottsboro: Comfort Inn or Guntersville: Hampton Inn are boat friendly with parking/charging.

Cabins: Jackson County Park or Waterfront Bay.

A lot of fishing cabins are now available on Vrbo or airbnb. I would recommend staying around scottsboro or goosepond area just to be more centered around the lakes most popular fishing areas.

Well I was set and ready to make reservations in Scottsboro AL. Then for some reason "tournaments " popped into my head.

Turns out there have tournaments every week for September and ones scheduled for every week in October.

I don't do well in crowds, particularly tournament ones. A bit to high strung for fishing. Not to mention the ramp traffic.

Plus the cost is now to high and would limit my stay to a week at the most.

Bummer man...I even went on a two to three day trip locally and did better than the entire year.

I wonder if that lake (Guntersville) ever has some down time other than spawn.

Oh well maybe back to Deep Creek and a better hotel.

Down time at guntersville? Negative ghost rider! But the lake is so massive you can sometimes hide from the world.

Yeah, the size is a bit of a problem right now. So far it takes at least a day for me to scope out a lake or river. I never get even the fairest of spots the first day.

Guntersville is so large it would take me at least 4 days just to scope out around Scottsboro +/- 4 miles. I'm pretty sure I would have to go way upstream to get out of the tournament traffic.

It's still a real bummer but I guess for the best. My boat parking place is now gone, GPS broken, and the hotel prices doubled.

I've been at the state park in the early spring. Nobody out on that part of the lake and it was intimidating. I got massively lost, thank God for GPS.

Yep your right, you can from the world on that lake.
