A Daiwa Steez or Shimano Antares.

So I could sell it and buy two Tatulas or Fuegos and two decent rods lol.

Shimano Metanium, to put on my dream combo.  Metanium, Heavy G loomis rod, 20 pound flouro, flipping, jigs, swimbaits, spoons.

Steez

I like my Daiwa. Can’t bring myself to spend the extra money on the Steez when the Tatula are so good… but I do want to try

I think I already own what would be my choice, and that is the 21' Daiwa Zillion SV. It is without question the best all around reel I have ever used, and is worth every penny of its asking price in my opinion.

Daiwa Zillion SVTWG if I outlive all the backorder extensions.

Megabass Lin Mars.  If I am going to go big, I want to go big and red!

I would have to do some research to figure out the exact model, but...

A NIB or mint Steez SV in 7 or 8 speed, and NO T-WING. In a perfect world, I would replace any red or purple trim with silver or black.

In all honesty, a SV103 in 7 or 8 speed might very well be my dream reel.

I'd choose a Shimano Calcutta. I'm used to round casting reels, and these are some of the best ever made.

It isn't fair that it's only casting gear. I WANT ALL THE REELS!!!

I'd like a few NIB TD-Ito HSDL Flipping reels, and pile of OG purple Alphas. That's the Daiwa, then from Shimano a bunch of the Chronarch E in 50 and 200 sizes and lots of ratios. NIB for everything. Spinning, whatever light reel Shimano is hawking right now. I'd need six or seven of them. Somehow I'd like to clone my 30 year old Zebco 33 so I could have more than one guest reel. That one works so well I sometimes use it. Lastly, I'll take a Kingpin Zeppelin center pin. Green and Black please.

I am like some of the guys that responded first.  Basically how can I answer that if I can't afford to buy top tier reels to try.  I'm a fan of Daiwa, so I'd probably have to pick a Steez since I have a couple older used models.  Sure wouldn't turn down a top of the line Shimano either.

I am like Mr. Franco...love my Purple Alphas and my 50th Anniversary Zillion is another reel I could stand to have a few more of.  :teeth:

If you could get any new baitcasting reel right now - money is no object - what would you get and why?

It's seeming like people are not getting your question. "money is no object" people!

Do you know what a 20 year old new in the box TD-Ito flipping reel goes for? Lulz.

Yep. Kinda like if I won a Ferrari. It goes bye bye instantly so I can get more and practical things.

If I could get any new baitcaster, I'd get a new old-stock Shimano Bantam 200sg from the 80s. The one with the nice stainless frame and wooden reel handle knobs.

I'd really love an Abu 2600C, don't see those come up very often.  I know a few guys here have them, but man those things cost about what a mortgage payment does lately lol

Heddon 4-15 or 4-18, and Redifor Beetzsel

both are holy grail collectibles, and two I'm missing from LW patents that competed with Marhoff before 1928.

(in fly reels, it would be 1936 C-spring Hardy Lightweight)

Like many here, have enough of my dream reels, some with spool options, and am wondering why others on this thread aim so low.

If you feel like taking your Zillion apart, you can replace the worm shaft bushings with BB (2x 740zz plus these shim washers).

I totally understand why some do, being a person of modest income myself.  I don't have any other hobbies that are potential money pits, so fishing is about it for me.  I prefer to have a handful of nicer combos versus a large quantity of more budget friendly gear.  At the end of the day, you're pretty much spending similar amounts of money, it's quality versus quantity.  Besides, patience and waiting for deals can really pay off in spades.  I don't think I've ever paid full retail for a rod or reel, each one was heavily discounted as part of a sale or the retailer was clearing stock to make way for the newer model.  I've also bought a lot of used gear which can also save substantially.  Now that I think about it, the only reels I've ever bought new were JDM.  All the rest came second hand via eBay and various forums I frequent.

still, this is supposed to be a dream thread with dream budget.

I will throw in one more for me, the JDM Steez LTD SV TW.

Though I still don't like the color, underneath it's improved.
