Think the Jika rig is a gimmick?  Watch the video first and then post your comments below.

The Jika rig has all but replaced traditional Texas rigs for the past 5 years or so.  It works that well, especially in the EU milfoil we have up here.

I don't believe I have one in my box. I've used one a little bit and couldn't really find a place for it. If we had more grass I could see how it would be useful.

Like Bluebasser, don’t own any here, and probably wouldn’t after the “Tokyo rig.” Just haven’t found a specific niche on my waters that requires it. “The more you know, the less you throw.”

This rig completely replaced the t-rig for  me several years ago, it just flat out comes through everything better, and looks more natural. Also jika means direct in Japanese, “ji” is pronounced as the letter z, so “zee-kah” is the correct pronunciation.

Got a couple questions on assembling your own rigs rather than buying pre-made.

Would having an oval split ring be better? Also, could you use a snap for the split ring to weight connection? If so, what size? I’ve got a bunch of cylindrical drop shot weights that I think would work well for this application.

Thanks….Joe

I've heard it pronounced both ways.

I actually make fun of the different pronunciations at this point in the video (it's cued up):

Googled it.  Looks interesting.

like a super short leader drop shot. !

I would pee on a spark plug if I thought it would help.  I’ll try this in the grass at Clearlake.

I use a Jika a fair bit, mostly for hopping craw plastics around riprap dams, it gets snagged up way less then a jig or normal t-tig.

I make my own using the swivels that Decoy sells.  So long as you make sure to keep the weight closer to the crimped end, they are stronger then any line I would be using.

I use a small oval for the sinker to main ring.  It's just big enough for the sinker and main split ring.

You could, but it will catch more weeds, which is why I went to the little oval.

Maybe I missing something, but this doesn't look much different from the tokyo rig.

It predates that by a decade or more and doesn't have all the useless additions. Slim and trim and gets through vegetation with less weight.
