What reel would you guys recommend ? I am thinking about a 7.1:1 reel minimum. I plan to do use jigs, big 12" worms, and even carolina rigs on this set up until I can afford more setups. This will be used probably more then anything. to give you guys an idea on budget for reel I would say $250 retail

Also need a rod suggestion, I can get dobyns shimano and a few others as I am in the industry. Budget wise on this would be as $250 as well. I really dont have any reels or rods I sold all my stuff and moved and now back in it.

Thanks for the suggestion

Just wondering why you would spend $500 on one combo when it'd be your only one.  I'd go with two combos so I could be a little more versatile with presentations. A cranking stick and worm/jig one would give you a good one-two option. There are endless, quality rods under $150 as are quality reels.

To your question, it's a matter of personal preference when it comes to rods and reels in that price range. You mention that you sold all your gear and are getting back into it again.  If you were happy with what you previously had, I say stick with those brand's current offerings.

Man if it were me, I'd go with a fuego and spend the rest on the rod for the techniques you mentioned.

You didn't mention weights so, DX744c at 350.00, leaves 150.00 for reel and line. Go with a Fuego and you could throw a few baits in there.

iROD GenesisIII  7ft heavy it has a broad weight range, 1/4- 1.25 and is a great multipurpose rod

Along with a Daiwa Tatula Elite Casting Reel.

Really nice combo that's balanced and light with a ton of sensitivity.

Your around $420 out the door, huge bang for your buck.

My favorite setups for worms and jigs are the following:

Shimano SLX DC 7.2:1 reel with a 7’-1” St. Croix Bass X MHF rod. 17lb. Flouro line.

Shimano SLX DC 6.3:1 reel with a 7’ Bass Pro Carbon Lite 2.0 MHF rod. 15lb. Fluoro line.

Worm and jig rods get a 6 speed, I see no need to go any faster.

This was my way of thinking until I started pitching. A faster retrieve speed pays off at the end of the day in the form of more casts (pitches) per day, assuming you only work the spot you cast to and then retrieve/repeat.

☝️This is what I would do! You can make a great combo for $250 ea. Like a Dobyns Fury series rod paired with a SLX or Tatula CT and a Dobyns spinning setup with a Shamano Sahara (3000 series has a 20lb drag)   It would be more productive in the long run. Unless, you are set on getting a higher end set up.

This got me to thinking what about two revo x I can get them for around $80 then pair with Duckett invite rods which run me about $100 ? Or something similar

-2 daiwa fuego CTs

-St. Croix Victory

-Other rod that fits what other technique youd want (dobyns fury, falcon bucoo, ARK, etc.)

I feel you can skimp on reels more than you can rods. The fuego cts will not leave you needing anything else and the St. Croix Victory (even dobyns sierra) will be an excellent bottom contact rod. The Marshal should cover most of what youd want to throw. The 2 reels and the Victory still leave about $120 for a 2nd rod for whatever technique you want to cover.

I'm of the get one good rod for bottom contact as that is a feel rod. And pair it with a good reel with what is left of your budget. When you are ready for your next rod you can decide if you need the extra sensitivity. A crank rod doesn't need that and can be had for much less.

Thank you guys for the responses. I have a revo winch and a veritas winch cranking rod so I believe I am covered in that area
