Hey BR,

My buddy took a trip up to WI and found these topwater baits in a small mom-and-pop tackle shop.  The owner couldn't name them, said they were donated to the shop from a non-fisherman's deceased father's tacklebox.  Any idea what they are?  They're about four inches long and they came with a single hook (not sure if it was that way originally, but that's how my buddy bought them), I've never really seen a topwater with a setup like that.  Thanks for all the help fellas, God bless and tight lines.

I have seen them before but dont remember the name of them.

I believe they were designed for salmon fishing.

Those are salmon lures designed for trolling.  Many different companies, have and continue to make a variation of this design.  I'm not sure of the exact model of the ones in the pictures, but they closely resemble one made by a Canadian company called Lyman.  Many companies such as Luhr Jensen J plugs have a hook connected to a harness, that slides through a whole in the body rather than attached directly.  Lymon plugs have the hook attached, but the face of the head is shaped slightly different than the ones in the picture.

I don't know the brand either, but I'm pretty sure those are salmon trolling plugs.  Do they float?

You know I'm not sure, I haven't fished one yet (he gave me one) and I didn't ask. I just assumed from the cupped mouth they floated and were a popper-style lure.

Those are indeed Tomic plugs, the numbers on the lip are the give away, the numbers actually describe the colors in a much too cryptic way, reminds me of SSIC.  As someone mentioned above, there were a few manufacturers making them and calling them different things. They are still being made, and while originally salmon trolling lures, they catch other things as well. I've caught, striped bass, bluefish and flounder. Tuna like them too, but the hardware isn't up to the task.
