Crazyjayb Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 What is the current best rod around 300$ for finesse techniques such as Ned rig, drop, tubes, or wacky/weightless senko? Preferably that is in stock 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 18, 2021 Super User Posted June 18, 2021 Loomis IMX Pro Spinning Rod 7' Medium 842S SJR https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/G_Loomis_IMX_Pro_Spinning_Rods/descpage-IMXS.html Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 18, 2021 Super User Posted June 18, 2021 I think you need at least 2 rods. I don’t think a rod for Ned rigs will work very well for those other baits, at least it wouldn’t for me. Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted June 18, 2021 Super User Posted June 18, 2021 My last rod purchase had the $300 JDM target. I went through every BFS rod on Asian Portal, and narrowed down the entries. I was all over Major Craft BFS rods, with Jackall a close second. But I chose to raise my ante over this remarkable Valleyhill BFS MM, and it was the wide lure range plus wide technique range that sold me. 1 Quote
TBAG Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 I just got a new 68mxf Expride to use as a Senko specific rod and it's amazing. I've yet to fish it but everything about it is awesome. Quote

Those are my primary fishing methods so trying to find something that can do both. 9 hours ago, TBAG said: I just got a new 68mxf Expride to use as a Senko specific rod and it's amazing. I was waiting for that rod for a few months but it never came into stock and is now saying it won't be back until August 12 hours ago, roadwarrior said: Loomis IMX Pro Spinning Rod 7' Medium 842S SJR https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/G_Loomis_IMX_Pro_Spinning_Rods/descpage-IMXS.html I have heard great things about that but I can't get over the solid cork handle, I love split cork Quote
Gkitz Posted June 18, 2021 Posted June 18, 2021 Highly recommend the St Croix 6’8” ML legend tournament Bass spinning rod Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 19, 2021 Super User Posted June 19, 2021 Spinning rod? You don’t no reason to spend $300 when $180 will get you St Croix Victory VS71MF and put some $ towards a Shimano Vanguard 2500 reel, work for everything you want. Tom Quote

Preferably that is in stock If "around 300$" encompasses $350US, then the Shimano Poison Adrena 267ML is a sweet rod and is generally available from the usual vendors (e.g., Tackle Warehouse). padon Posted June 19, 2021 Posted June 19, 2021 i have the previously mentioned st.croix legend tournament . i would go with the dropshot model. i also have a shimano expride 610 and like it too for ned and drop shot.its a little light for my liking for anything else. Quote

My only worry is that it is a medium light, would this work for weightless senkos? 2 hours ago, padon said: i have the previously mentioned st.croix legend tournament . i would go with the dropshot model. i also have a shimano expride 610 and like it too for ned and drop shot.its a little light for my liking for anything else. Tom I was planning on pairing the rod with a stradic ci4. Is that sensitive enough? I mean I really lovee sensitivity 6 hours ago, Gkitz said: Highly recommend the St Croix 6’8” ML legend tournament Bass spinning rod Really haven't paid attention to those but seems people like them. My only worry is that it is a medium light, would this work for weightless senkos? [stuff deleted] An unweighted 4" senko (with hook) weighs a bit over 1/4 oz. No problem casting something that heavy. BTW, the stradic ci4+ has been replaced by the vanford which is a little lighter still, so the latter is a great option. I'm using a Stella FJ 1000 with the PA 267ML - it's a bit heavier than the 1000 form factor vanford, but I like it. 1 Quote

Would it be too light for weightless senko? no the legend tournament in the drop shot model has a light tip but it gets stout pretty quick. i have 2 of them and usually have a weightless senko on one all spring. now this is all opinion of course . i use 20 lb braid to a 10lb fluoro leader and fish mostly moderate cover. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 19, 2021 Super User Posted June 19, 2021 Shimano Stradic CI4 2500 reel weighs 6.7 oz, it’s upgrade is the Vanford at 6.3 oz. the ideal rod weight should be approximately 1/2 the reel weight or 3.3 oz plus line. The SC Victory M71MF for reference weighs 3.2 oz with premium state of the art rod blank and new design cork handle. You can pay more but doubt if the extra $100 will buy you a better finesse spinning rod. Tom PS, not a St Croix fan boy but this is a good rod! Quote
