So I have been studying snd YouTubing and doing all I can on here snd I think I understand it for the most part. But I assume those white dots or “grains of rice” are fish? Or tell me if I am not seeing this correctly. What am I looking at on the side imaging.

They sure look like fish to me.

I like to have sonar running side by side with the Si; or go back over the area in sonar only.  If there's clear arches, then it assures me they're fish.

What kind of fish can be hard to tell

Well that’s good to know I can at least tell a fish.  And some look suspended I think bc of the shadows.  This whole area looks like that.. but I can’t seem to catch them.

Yes, the shadows are key.

As far as the no bite, they're either finicky bass, non active bass or not bass.

As stated above, shadows will tell you a lot. It's difficult to tell from the pics posted. Get a memory card and take screen shots. Upload them to your computer and then post those pics. Will be much easier to decipher.

I have no idea,  been trying to learn for years. Then something hit me, 99% of what you see is BS junk. I used to be told to display and print out noise in electronic test systems because the sales weenies thought it looked cool. Also the guys designing it don't have a clue as to what it is other than a reflection,  could be direct or indirect(a bounce of the top then back down again.) As far as I know there is no, 0, nada standards.

Mine shows a fish and the depth in b&w. Hey it works to keep me off rocks and find stuff. Hydrilla messes it up though.

Oh, for me it's fine....I'm very much color blind anyway

Yes, they are some type of fish.  Bass, Carp, Catfish, who knows.   That said, a key indicator is to look for "bait balls" near these types of returns.  If you see the same image your posted but with round looking "blobs" nearby, they most likely are bass.  Generally speaking, no bait, no bass, or at least bass not feeding.
