Looking for a graphite composite or glass MH moderate action rod with a  parabolic bend  profile  for cranks and chatterbaits in that 3/8th oz. to 5/8th oz. range $(150 or less) . Sensitivity is not a key requirement for cranks and chatterbaits - as a matter of fact with all graphite MH Fast  action rods and FC line my reflexes are too fast and I end up pulling the lure away too often . What is your favorite rod that matches the above description and applications ?

P.S. Not having an appropriate moderate action , parabolic rod is a big hole in my rod line up as all are graphite fast or XF actions . I've tried building in some give and reduced sensitivity by using mono instead of FC line for cranks and chatterbaits  - but then you end up with a problem that your lures don't get down far enough in the water - time to get the right rod for the application .

St Croix Mojo Bass Glass Casting rod - the 7'2" medium covers 1/4-3/4oz right at that $150 mark, the 7'4" medium-heavy covers 3/8-1oz for $160.

If you're keeping to 5/8oz or less, the medium would be fine.

I have the last model Lews TP1 med-hvy  model. Although I don’t throw chatterbaits on it crank baits only, the reviews made mention of it being a chatterbait rod as per Lews. The new tp1 x has the same specs at 7’-3” for $99.99. I realize it’s graphite but the action is perfect for me. I throw my chatterbaits on a bps cranking stick (last years model split grips) and I couldn’t be happier 7’-3” hvy, The new model has full grips also $79.99-$99.99. Also search Lews David Frits crank bait rod I’m pretty sure their are some members here who use them.

The dobyns fury 705cb makes a great chatterbait rod and can handle small to mid divers, it'll throw up to about a dt14 or 5xd or just under an ounce, any bigger would require a different rod.

[?rant] On a side note, if a fishing rod was parabolic it would not be usable, a parabolic rod would be in the shape in the pic below.. A parabola is a mathematically derived fixed shape curve. I really wish people would stop using that word to describe a rods action. Moderate is the word you're looking for. [close rant?]

I use the 7'2 MH Jacob Wheeler Signature Series Duckett rod for my chatterbait. It is very nice and stout with a great bend! I think it comes in at $139 or something close to that! I wish I would have bought 15 rods from this series, they are fantastic!

Go to Lew's and look up the David Fritts line of rods, the Perfect Cranker and the Perfect Palmer.

Any part of a parabola is "parabolic". A rod that had its handle at the word "Parabola" and the tip under load at the "s" in "Focus" would be parabolic, because it's part of a true parabola. It would also be a sweet, sweet rod.

A different bend is "progressive". There is no firm definition for progressive in terms of fishing rods, but the terminology is usually taken to resemble the bend under load of sailing ship masts.            jj

True but if a rod was as you described it'd be an extra-fast action, about a 85/15 or likely faster from the looks of it, very far from moderate which is what irks me when people say "parabolic" rod or action because they're actually trying to describe a more moderate even bend deeper into the blank, a parabola is a fixed never changing shape which is why it makes no sense to use it to describe something which is constantly changing shape. Anyhoo... sorry for the derail.

I haven’t tossed a chatterbait on my 705CB yet, but it’s done great with squarebills and lipless cranks.

If you find yourself being able to increase you budget to 180, the Kaden 735CB would cover your expectations very very well.

*Moderate it is then !! ... Looking for that bend in the rod that extends to that half way point or a little beyond .

TW has a Daiwa DX composite Heavy rod with a nice soft tip thats made for chatterbaits.

Its been doing a great job for me this season.  Got it for a nice deal on black friday as they've been discounting it heavily for around $80. Its a homage to the Evergreen Leopard which eventually evolved for the combat stick.

Previous seasons Ive used the Dobyns Fury 704 which also did a nice job.

I have a Duckett Terex which is exactly what you described and it is my favorite bladed jig rod. Just 2 weeks ago I contracted Duckett Fishing because I want another and they don’t make them anymore. Their customer service said the Jacob Wheeler series is what I want now. Just waiting for the next sale.

I have St Croix Mojo Yak that works great for chatterbaits.  It's listed as a fast rod but it is very soft.  It loads perfectly for chatterbaits and even crankbaits.  Shorter handle though.
