Hi All, I’m in the market for a casting rod with plans on using mostly weightless 5/6 inch senkos and mixing in light weights (1/4 or so) and I’m looking for some suggestions.  I’ve looked at the Zodias 7’2 M and MH and then the Loomis E6X or IMX 853.  I don’t have any experience with either series so I’d be interested in some feedback on those or any other rods I should consider.  As always I appreciate the feedback!

I have a shaky rod that I really like.  It was made by the previous owners of Ark Rods.  They have changed hands.  So I can’t replace it.  I took it to a local rod builder.  I told him I wanted a rod similar to it.  He built me one that is way better than the one that I really like.  That’s why I X2 on roadwarrior’s post.

I have the old the 844C IMX.  It works great for Texas rigged soft plastic and 1/4oz weight.   I also uses this rod for top water and the occasional jig.  It's a very versatile rod.

Whether someone's budget is an Aird-X or an MBR, it's none of our business.

To your point, a Senko can be fished on the cheapest Walmart rod one can find, but the thing about a Senko is how hard it can be to feel the bite sometimes. The Senko might very well be the bass bait responsible for most gut hooks. A higher end rod certainly helps here.

Since you are weighting the Senko, any worm rod action that you like will work.

OP, expride for the $. IMX is nice but for the money the expride is very hard to beat. Good warranty, very sensitive, nice cork and good craftmanship.

So the OP's limit is $220.  Sorry.  Can't help at that price.  Just helping by pointing out you aren't looking for a $230-$300 (or more) rod.  But I have to agree that you might be able to go custom at that budget and get something nicer than a factory rod.

The rods the OP was looking at have cork handles and locking rings, a design I also prefer.

Daiwa Tatula 7’1” MHF and St Croix Victory 7’1” MHF are excellent rods $150-$180 price points.

I use ALX custom jig & worm casting rods since 2012 that have a 2 1/2” locking ring fore grip. Lighter weight then NRX with equal performance, Alex is a excellent rod builder.

I don’t don’t own a Victory Casting rod do have a spinning rod. The Victory is very light weight but runs a little under rated in power, good lure feedback and like the handle design. I don’t have a Tatula rod, a few trusted members have  recommended it.

Alex can make any rod you want but not off the self prices.

These days I throw senkos on spinning gear. Back in the day I threw them on bait casting gear.   I tried several different rods.   There are pro & cons  to each approach.   I like casting wacky senkos on spinning gear - mostly because I like how the braid acts as a strike indicator on semi-slack line.

I caught quite a few fish using the bait casting gear, but over time I felt like it was overkill - that I didn't need to be using that stout gear.

A good compromise is the Falcon Finesse Jig rod - either in the Low Rider or Bucco series.  6'10" MH ( on the very medium side of medium/heavy ).  This used to be called the Eakins Jig rod, until Eaking & Falcon parted ways, for some reason that I don't know.

Spinning is good for unweighted Senko, OP is using weighted to 1/4 oz., no different then a weighted worm.
