I get my buff and gloves in today and plan on testing them out tonight. Supposed to be sunny and hot so its a good test! I also get to test out my new chatterbait rod and reel and throwing a Fire Craw for the first time. We will see if it lives up to the hype. Also trying out a Max Scent lure for the first time, again will see if it lives up to the hype and I sure hope so!

i really like using the buff this season but last night when the skeeters came out the buff was no help as they were poking away at my face. I may need a bee mask next.

Sunscreen hater here. Just don't like the way it makes my skin feel. I've got one of the hooded AFTCO sun shirts and a couple of the Magellan sun shirts. Started wearing those and a buff a couple of years ago. I've been looking into gloves but haven't pulled the trigger on any yet. Usually wear a ball cap but may transition to a wide brimmed hat. I just got a clamp on umbrella from Academy that I'm going to try attaching to my kayak seat.

Im going out today after work and I think I'm going full coverage. Was going to wear a t shirt and ball cap but I'm going to wear a long sleeve sun shirt, boonie hat, new gloves and buff and see how i feel.

I fish all summer long in Texas, so lots of trial and error. The only time it really gets unbearable is if there's no wind.

Here's what works for me -

Wide Brim Hat with cooling dots. It's like a portable tree. I look like my grandpa. Don't care, because it works.

Gloves with cooling dots. Wear them mostly through the brightest six hours or so.

Buff with cooling dots, but mostly just to cover my neck in the front from reflected sun. Generally don't like it over my face, but sometimes later in the day I can feel my face cooking, even with 50 or 100spf. Goes on around 11 or so. Basically as soon as I start feeling sun on my neck.

All three go in the water occasionally, at least until the water starts hitting 90, at which point I'm better off with some water from the cooler.

The cooling dots make a -huge- difference. The buffs I have with no dots just stay in the drawer.

What's a cooling dot?

Everyone calls it something different, as an example OR calls it active ice. I know columbia, OR, and Huk all have it.

Basically it is hyper-evaporative. The water* evaporates faster so it creates more cooling. Kind of like how alcohol on your skin feels cooler than pouring water on it.

What brand is OR? Ive never heard of cooling dots either. I know if there is a breeze and you wet the cloth it cools, or just still a gel ice pack under your buff haha.

I didn't end up going out tonight. I decided on a night with the family watching a movie in the home theater and I'll go saturday and have more time and not have just gotten off work. Still gonna be sunny and hot!

In my last reply I said all the gaiters ive bought were tight. I forgot I have this one https://pelagicgear.com/products/sunshield-pro-dorado-green?refSrc=4187314552910&nosto=productpage-nosto-1

its light weight, loose fitting except for the elastic at the top to hold it in place.
Only problem I had is it got twisted and the little mouth holes ended up on my cheek and I got a sun tan there

i bought a wallmart gaitor but dont remember the brand, it cost $9.99. It was a one size fits all as most i have seen are that way. I have a small noggin but i must say it fits great, very comfortable.

I would guess it maybe uncomfortable for folks with big noggins and beards.

Depends on the bugs. No bugs - no buff but a wide-brimmed hat. Bugs - buff and a ball cap. Fingerless gloves are on either way.

I haven't found ANYTHING that keeps skeeters away when they're swarming. But it works well when the buffalo gnats get bad in the spring.

same here my gaitor is useless against skeeters as they were pokin me all over my face the other evening so we had to pack up a leave.

Now here is what i did when i was stationed in Rosy Roads Puerto Rico, the barracks we lived in was no aircon, open bay, open windows, all we had was a fan to blow on us and the skeeters were bad.

When it was time to hit the rack what i did was to take a clean pair of underwear and spray them good with OFF repellant and then put them over my head because the skeeters were headhunters and ankle biters. I also sprayed my ankles down good and had the fan on high blowing from my feet up.

So i was thinkn maybe i should spray my gaitor down with OFF real good so i can continue to fish past 10.00pm. I wear a thick jacket to ward off the skeeters so its the face and hands that get it the worst.

That’s the one I just got. Way to small

Went out around 7 and didnt wear the buff but wore the gloves. The one on my left that held the reel I had to really clamp down on the reel because it wasnt very grippy so I took it off and wore the right glove and forgot I had it on. Lightweight and good grip on the reel handle. So I need to do something with the left glove or get different ones.

I wear a ballcap with a gaiter and some lightweight fishing finger gloves with UPF50 protection. The gloves also have rubber beads on the palms to help with grip.

I like to wear shorts in the summer, especially when I'm out on the kayak. But I cover my legs, feet, and exposed parts of my arms with sunscreen. Not all sunscreen is greasy, so I don't mind it.

I also wear UPF50 short sleeve shirts. I've picked up a bunch at Sam's Club over the years, but this year I bought some Columbia shirts. I had my hotel logo embroidered on them and use them not only when I fish, but also at our hotel event nights down at the lake like Fishing with the GM, S'Mores Night, and Hot Dog Roast night. As a bonus, because I use them for those events I got to expense them.
