You infer too much sir.  Although I do have a '2-60' air conditioner that works as long as someone cranks the windows down.

Hopefully yours has the lower body air flow device as well! I.E. wing windows turned all the way out. ?

I lived in Alaska for over 30 years.  My skin didn't know what sun was.  Now I'm in Mexico loving the sun.  Its shorts, T shirt, and ball cap for me.  I'm sure I will regret my ways some day, but for now I'm just making up for lost time.

Starting mid to late spring and all the way through late fall I'll wear sun gloves and either a hoody with UPF 50+ protection or a buff. I'll go fishing looking like a bank robber.

Granted, I have vitiligo so I have to be extra careful with my white spots. I'll even wear these open palm gloves while driving during the day. I've had my knuckles burned bad enough to blister just from driving in the summer because the skin without pigment *does not tan*, it just burns.

I found that the main issue I had with other buffs were how tight they were. As soon as you get one that's either shaped or larger than usual you'll actually want to wear it. Right now I have either the regular Simms Solarflex sun gloves and "gaiter" or the Bugstopper ones, which keep you from getting eaten alive. Also I like them better for driving because they're a little closer to actual tanned skin color than the "cloud camo" ones. Also, at least for the Simms stuff, if you're wearing it in like 100-105 degree hit and a slight breeze suddenly hits it actually feels cool while it wicks up your sweat, so you get this cooling effect while being protected from the harsh sunlight.

I got tired of the thick (like, candle wax thick) sunscreen on my face and hands and having to reapply it every two hours or so, and having that stuff on my cork handles. So yeah, buffs and gloves all the way.

All the buffs I have bought are to tight. They feel like kid sizes and NO I don’t have a big head.
Can you share any links to some good fitting buffs please

This is the regular one

And the Bugstopper one - it's the exact same cut but the fabric has bug protection

The fabric is super light so it wont feel as tight and heavy on the skin as the regular ones. Also, it's wider below the neck so it tucks nicely under your collar and doesn't leave much uncovered.

Yeah I definitely think I'm going to look into them. I hate sunblock and I can't tell you why. I just hate it. I have some nice columbia short sleeves but need a fee long sleeves. Whats some good light weight options for buffs and gloves. I have never once looked into them.

I have a big head and feel your pain. Most don't fit me at all. I've been using these for several years and keep going back when they eventually get trashed.

I have a couple pair of gloves, can't say that I wear them all the time but they're okay. I own several gaiters, made by numerous companies including Buff. I hate them. They fit too tight, they're hot and I feel like I'm suffocating. Like @Russ E, I wear a wide brim, "boonie" style hat. It's a moister wicking hat and wear the gaiters around my neck to keep the sun off.

Both. I do not recommend gloves in crowded public places. Trust me, guys will think it’s feminine and you’ll wind up in situations where you have to make sure they know that’s not the case. It’s just not worth it.

What?  If you care what people think of what you are wearing when you are fishing, you probably shouldn't be fishing.

I cover from head to toe when I fish with long pants, long sleeve shirt, face gaiter, gloves and a hat.  I hate having to put on sunscreen when I'm fishing because A. it's a pain to put on, B. it makes my hands greasy, C. I usually forget to put it on before it's too late, and D. it's a pain to put on.  I'm really fair skinned and burn easily so I like to stay covered up.

I like the look of these. I might look into a pair. I figure i ought to atleast give it a try before i dismiss it. Seems like the benefits out weigh the added clothing.

Another benefit to covering your skin is that it helps keep you hydrated....

Soaking a necktie also drops your body temp.....

I'm getting so I always wear a buff.  Even when I have on a wide brim hat.  I don't do the gloves.  The eczema on my hands doesn't like it.

Buff and gloves for me along with long sleeve SPF 50 shirt. Plus SPF100 on my face, neck and ears. I had skin cancer on one of my ears, and I’d like to avoid it again if I can.

My gloves are similar and I wear a huge hat. I look like an old lady gardening and don’t care. Keeps me from needing gallons of sunscreen. I also usually have my pants tucked into muck boots to avoid snakes and broken glass.
If you’re that worried about how you look, wear sunscreen.

No one has ever told me I look feminine. And if they do…ok, whatever. You’re sister didn’t think so ?

And neither did his mom,lol!

I also could care less what people think about how I look when fishing. I remember before one mtn bike race that going to happen in muddy conditions and icy rain, I constructed fenders out of Gatorade bottles for the Dow tube and rear tire. My buddies laughed their rears and teased me to the bank, but I didn’t care. It was a nasty and gnarly race and by the end of it, they looked like frozen muddy snowmen while I could have been in a commercial for Irish Spring soap. I was chuckling so hard in my mind you would have heard the laughter if you were standing next to me.

To the topic, I am actually going to do a better job protecting my skin from the sun so I appreciate this thread. Those gloves look functional and I like functional. I do need help however.

What is a buff? When I tried googling it, the searched pointed toward buff muscles and such. ?

One downside of wearing a buff is that it feels like your neck is covered, but unless you're wearing a hoodie or a collared shirt, there's always a little strip of skin that is getting sun.

Thanks. Now I know what everyone is talking about. I just called them neck warmers, lol. Buff to me could be muscular, or what you do with turtle wax on a car or someone who is well versed in something like history, lol.

I went ahead and order a set from Amazon that has a buff and fingerless sun gloves. Should be here tomorrow and I'll try them out and if I like them but want nicer ones I'll get nicer ones individually and not a set made in china for cheap off Amazon. I figured this way if I dont like wearing them im not out much money, but if i do but feel better quality would be more comfortable, I dont mind keeping these as backup.

I have given up on buffs. I have a reasonably full beard and it’s too hot to have it trapped against my neck all day.  I wear a sun hoodie with the hood stretched over the brim of my hat, between that and my glasses, I only need to protect my nose and upper cheeks.  I got a lightweight ‘rona mask and it’s been working out great.  I can get it set where my glasses don’t fog up and my neck can breathe.

I used to be lax on sunscreen and covering up.  Then my wife made me go to a dermatologist for a routine check up.  The dermatologist said I had some minor skin damage from UV rays on my forehead.  Since that day, I have been way more cautious when fishing in the sun, especially during peak daytime hours.  I don't mind using sunscreen and I re-apply to areas that need it.

Vitamin D is required for good health and the natural version from the sun is the best you can get but its important to understand that you can block out the harmful UV rays and still get what you need.

I don't care for gloves.  I prefer to be bare handed when I fish, even when its quite cold out.  I can tolerate it down to about 35 degrees.  Same when I hunt - no gloves unless its colder than about 35 degrees.  I don't get the feel of the gun and the rod/reel with gloves on that I want.

I get my buff and gloves in today and plan on testing them out tonight. Supposed to be sunny and hot so its a good test! I also get to test out my new chatterbait rod and reel and throwing a Fire Craw for the first time. We will see if it lives up to the hype. Also trying out a Max Scent lure for the first time, again will see if it lives up to the hype and I sure hope so!
