Can someone help me identify what these are on my fish finder?

I picked up my first fish finder and have taken it out a handful of times however I am still getting used to it. It's a Lowrance tripleshot Hook Reveal unit. I am curious as to what I am looking at in the screenshots? I'm not sure if my settings are screwed up or if what I am looking at is of interest.

I’m not familiar with Lowrance, but it appears fish reveal is telling you there are fish there in red.

i use humminbird but that looks like fish on a boulder to me.

That's what I was thinking but I thought a boulder would be more solid.

Not a fan of hybrid imaging. You have it marked, so I’d run a traditional DI/2d split screen and go back over it next time you are at the lake. If these were fish, they’ll probably be gone. If rocks, they’ll be right where you left them - lol.

 

My guess going off the middle image is a rockpile on the right with a school of fish left of that, but it could also be two groups of fish, predators on the right hunting down baitfish on the left. A 2d look would have confirmed the correct scenario.

I've been to thinking the hybrid setup is kind of hard to see detail. I'll try the split screen with 2d and DI and see how it looks. Thanks!

Solid things usually show up as bright and thin on sonar.  Since the sonar waves bounce off it immediately and don't penetrate into it, solid surfaces tend to look very thin.  Soft surfaces, like mud or vegetation, will appear much thicker, because some of the sonar waves will be reflected immediately, and some will penetrate a ways before eventually being reflected.  They'll also usually be less bright, because you're not getting the bounce back from the full beam.  

 

Reading sonar takes a bit of skill.  It's not like a normal camera that uses light to see.  Sonar is using sound and as we all know, sound can penetrate through a lot more things than visible light.  But you'll get the hang of it after a while.

I was thinking maybe a rockpile on the right, and a school of fish (maybe over another rockpile) to the left.

I almost always run them split screen. Sometimes you can things in sonar a lot easier like fish, but then use the down imaging to verify that what you are seeing is in fact fish and not something that is actually in the form of an arch.

Definitely looks like a rock pile with a school of fish to the left. One way to get to know your sonar is to get a underwater camera and drop it down when your not sure what your sonar is showing you after a few times you will know exactly what your sonar is showing you without the camera Amazon has some for 100$ worth every penny

I hate to admit this because it is old school, but the one thing I like about my Garmin is that is has a flasher option. I can switch over quick enough to see if fish are present. 

 

I know what you're thinking, I'm stuck in the 80's...?

Don't feel too bad - I occasionally flip my Striker 7CV over to Flasher just for a look-see myself.

 

And I started using flashers back in the 70s...
