Is there a better choice for a drop shot hook than a uni knot with a long tag? I usually tie a uni for other stuff and its easy for me but I can do a different one if thats better.

Also, should my hook always be pointed up?

I have seen drop shot hooks sold with small swivels on them, think the bass will mind the extra bulk/have any of you tried them and have feed back?

edit: whoops. I use a palomar knot.
I use a uni knot but I’m a noob when it comes to DS.
As far as the hook pointing up - yes it should. You want to hook the fish in the roof of the mouth. So when you tie on, if the hook is pointed down take your line tag end and pass it through the hook eye from the top. That will put the hook in the right direction.
Do a search here and you will find a wealth of info on drop shoting

The only time i'll ever use a Palomar knot is for a drop shot.

Tie the knot with a long tag end, feed the tag end back through the eye of the hook, pull the tag end so that the knot also passes through the eye of the hook (don't use too thick of a line, it could damage the knot by jamming it through the eye), now the hook sits perfectly perpendicular to the line.

Yes you want the hook to be pointing up.  The Uni is an awesome knot, I think its more efficient then a Palomar with DS rigs and most people seem to favor the Palomar.  I started using a different knot a few years ago.  I dont know what its called, its tied just like a dropper loop just minus the loop lol.  The knot locks the hook in place so its perfectly straight at all times and since there is no tag there is 0 wasted line.  This is how to tie it

We called that a 'dropper knot'.  Been around forever. I initially used this with a tag end to place one or more hooks or teasers on bottom rigs in saltwater applications.

Should be Totally applicable for a drop shot as well.

I use the VMC drop shot rigs with the tiny swivels, and the fish don't seem to care.

Generally a "dropper" is a dropper loop or some kind of variation of it.  The guy who showed me how tie this knot referred to it as "teaser" knot, because we were using them to put clousers about 2' in front of our Bomber As and Sluggos.

That knot can be tied with a loop, just use more line.

I've used both a uni and a palomar for the drop shot, it seems to work equally well with both.

Like I said, this knot is essentially a dropper loop minus passing the bend through the middle of the twists.

I only use a Palomar knot for any drop shot rig.

I've been "drop shotting" with a dropper loop long before there was a thing. Sometimes when I'm feeling really jiggy, I'll push up the bait all the way up the loop against the knot.

As others have mentioned the dropper loop is a staple in the salt for several aplications.

I need a technique name for dead sticking a 2 loop one on the drift, catches everything.

Multiple drop shot hook rig is called “stacking” popular prior to “down shot” that was prior to “drop shop” for fresh water fishing.

The multiple dropper loop rig is called a “ganion ” commonly used for deep rock fish fishing or catching multiple mackerel for bait. The single is simply a dropper loop rig.

Every region has their own Terminology.
