JeffDahMoose776 Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 I currently have a 6'6" medium power fenwick hmx and use for everything, but i have caught the gear buying bug. I'm looking for a rod I can use for finesse and lighter weight fishing, anything from panfish to small stream trout to vertical jigging for walleyes. I've been eyeing up the fenwick eagle and I'm wondering if I should get a light power model or if a medium light would overlap too much with my hmx Thanks for the advice and sorry if this is worded wrong Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted June 13, 2021 Super User Posted June 13, 2021 what we're missing is whether you want a spinning rod or casting rod (HMX is offered in both). MM is good all-around - ML will usually get you to 1/8 oz. The best BFS bass rods will cast 1/16 oz - but can they also be fast and have a wide lure-weight range, up to 5/8 oz. In my niches, the 3 are different rods. My thought is the small stream trout rod should be a different rod from the others. To work well there, it's going to be too light for vertical jigging. 1 Quote
JeffDahMoose776 Posted June 13, 2021 Author Posted June 13, 2021 Sorry, i have an hmx spinning, and im looking at an eagle spinning, stream trout would be a secondary use, I would mostly use it for panfish and walleyes Im not sure if a light power model would be enough for the eyes which is why im here Thanks-Jeff Quote
Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted June 13, 2021 Super User Posted June 13, 2021 The Eagles are on the lighter side when it comes to power, a L might struggle to get a good hook set Quote

Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted June 14, 2021 Super User Posted June 14, 2021 Well for sure the SC Mojo can do it. It throws 1/16 and small grub pretty good, you can get away with a 1/32 and 2" grub but any lower and your casting less then 35ft. Whats nice about the ML XF is they cast better then softer light rods in wind, which comes in handy especially if you fish a lot of bridges. Quote
