Reel selection for light baits

Hello, I am looking to purchase a reel for throwing lures around 1/4th oz and was looking at the daiwa tatula sv, lews custom lite, or shimano 70 k. I've used all three brands in the past but never really enjoyed my past shimanos (slx dc and curado 200k) but am interested in the mgl spool. Does anyone have any experience using these three reels? And which one should I consider getting?

Shimano Curado MGL 70 is a slightly nicer version of the SLX MGL 70. I like both of them.

I'm Shimano biased (all my favorite casting and spinning reels are Shimanos), so ofc I would recommend any MGL for lighter lures, heck even the base SLX is good for throwing weightless senkos.  But, I do know that the T-wing system and light spool on Daiwas is superb for lighter lures, as well.

Shimano Curado MGL for sure! Excellent reel, and seems to cast great with not much line over run. 

 

But if you do go with Daiwa Tatula, the T-Wing might be an issue. If you happen to use braid and tie on mono or flouro line as a leader, there is that chance the knot will get caught on the T-Wing. I use straight braid, so this is a non issue for me.

The Daiwa Steez CT SV and Shimano Aldebaran MGL 30HG (JDM) are both excellent finesse casting reels.  I also have a Lew's Custom Lite and in its price range, it is very competent (and light).

I have a few Curado MGL's and Tatula SV's. Both great reels, but if I had to recommend one over the other for throwing lighter weights, I'd go Curado MGL.

Daiwa PX Type R and Daiwa Alphas SV 105 are my two favorites but I think there are probably a lot of new/better choices out there these days...

The nice thing about Daiwa SV-TW,  it extends your lure weight range in both directions generally without adjusting anything.  

You adjust the mag for the lightest lure you're going to throw, then you can swap lures, and the SV on the spool brake rotor takes care of the rest.  

You can fish 1/8 oz easy, and with the right rod, 1/16 - swap to 1/4, 1/2, more - no worries.

It depends what you want to throw.  For dense baits that don't offer a ton of wind resistance my 20Met is awesome.  You can get a JDM 20Met for around 260$.  Im pretty sure the Curado 70 MGL uses the same spool, so the casting performance should be about as good and its considerably cheaper.  I like to throw lots of smaller CBs and flatsides that arent the easiest casting baits.  The MGLS throw them well, but the SV spools make fishing them in wind a little easier.  You dont get the distance with the SV, but that spool comes in handy.

Even a Black Max will sling a weightless 5" Senko. They're almost 1/2oz without the hook weight.

Lews Custom light will throw that easily and even lighter. The 27 position brake is awesome.Its extremely smooth and weighs nothing. You can't beat it.
