galyonj Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 I'll take your share, bro. Pink gets bit if there are smallmouth around, and there are a lot of smallmouth hiding here. Quote

InfantryMP Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 If I were to downsize to an "everyday" bag I would have: 1. Chatterbaits with trailers 2. Cranks and Lipless Cranks 3. Stick worms, trick worms, and swimming worms 4. Jerkbaits (soft and hard) 5. Ned / Drop Shot / Shaky head 6. Whopper plopper / Frog / spook 7. Jigs with trailers I would have a terminal tackle box, worm box, and then start utilizing the other boxes with all the other baits. Could easily get all of that in to 4 or 5 3700's if organized well. 1 Quote

The top of this box has racks for 20+ spinner and buzz baits. Also has five smaller Plano boxes with hooks, weights, jigs, jerk baits, rattle-traps. Also holds my scissors and plyers...and top holds tooth picks, wacky rings and a hook sharpener. Tackle box 2: soft sided with six or seven medium size Plano boxes containing soft plastics of all shapes and sizes - Senkos, Slug-Go's, grubs, NED, trailers, finesse worms, fries, craws, Houdini shad, etc. Front pouch holds all my power-worms, swim trailers, and floating worms. Side pouch holds small tool kit, extra line, and a small box with all my small Mepps and light crappie tackle. Back pouch holds reel lube, polarized glasses, sun block. The above two boxes go with me when I fish...every time. I am constantly moving tackle and equipment from the above, to the below... Tackle box 3: my old box holds extra soft plastics, extra hooks, weights, skirts, duplicates of stuff I have in boxes 1 & 2 (I never want to run out of stuff...keep extras on hand). Tackle box 4: the really old box...it's steel...given to my by my Dad when I was 8-9 years old(?). This holds all my rod building / repair supplies, vintage lures I just can't throw away, tackle building supplies, and miscellaneous fishing stuff. Tackle box 5: holds all my Musky lures. Bin 1: holds all my lines Bin 2: holds boat supplies, reel covers, rest of my walleye lues and jigs, older cranks, jigs, soft plastics that I haven't used in a while. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Going forward...I am currently renovating my 14' v-hull...creating storage compartments...the goal is to transition all my tackle to Plano boxes in the boat's storage compartments...no more tackle boxes to stumble over, drag in and out of the boat. When I fish with Brother, or others, I can then pull the Plano boxes I need, toss them in to a tackle box, and fish. Picture fishing with my Dad...Tackle box 1&2 are on the left...Dad's tackle box is brown on the right...gets pretty crowded in that little boat... W-h-a-a-a-t?... I moved my entire family 4,752 miles from Alaska to Virginia with less baggage than that! 1 2 Quote

txchaser Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 I just want you to remember this thread a couple of years from now so you can compare it to the pile you have built by then. The monkey always wins, it is better at rationalization. Seriously though, I've noticed I go through expansion and contraction of what I use or pack. I'll get focused and start culling stuff out, but then it'll start refilling. "wait I don't have any of these in silent or one-knocker." Or I'll go in a box looking for a little bit different presentation or color and don't have it, and it'll get added. Does it help? Eh, my five all-time largest fish were caught on exactly three lures, and the next six only add three more. (flatside, a-rig, buzzbait, jig, chatterbait, senko). And if I wanted to cut it by numbers I'd only add another lure or two, Keitech/underspin and a frog. If it weren't for the soft plastics it'd be way easier for sure, and that's been going through the same experimentation and culling process. I have a good reason for 3-4 craw colors, but no good reason for multiple vendors across those craws. But like another poster mentioned, I had to experiment to figure out what I liked and what worked for me, and along the way accumlated a bunch of good stuff that I'm not actually going to use for one reason or another. I've started giving away what I know I'm not going to fish, mostly to a small town high school fishing club. It feels great to both clean it out, and know it is going to some kids that are light on tackle. 4 Quote

They're secret is that they know when and where to use them. Look up NDYakAngler on youtube. He is a perfect example of this type of fisherman. As for myself, I buy more than I need when I really could just get away with senkos, a spinnerbait, a frog, and a jig 1 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted June 9, 2021 Super User Posted June 9, 2021 I've got more tackle than I need - but who doesn't? The whole paradigm of need versus want is a philosophical discussion for another time. Besides, I kind of like listening to my various rods & reels talk to me, trying to convince me in the most earnest terms why they deserve to be on the traveling team and once we're out on the water, why they deserve the workout. It gives me a sense of power that in many other areas of my life I lack. Changing the subject again - the guy who posted earlier who "ain't gonna wear no tights . ." you need to try them. They are lighter, cooler, don't absorb sweat, prevent sun burn, did I mention that they are lighter and don't absorb sweat. Anyway, on all fishing trips, except June, July & August, I'll wear some version of high tech long underwear & shorts. If I didn't need the pockets I wouldn't wear the shorts. But much more often than not I do need the pockets for keys & clean snot rags, and assorted other stuff. In October & November, this combo is extremely comfortable underneath rain gear. Give it a try. 1 Quote

Honestly, the next fishing-related stuff I buy will probably be bibs and some kind of rain jacket, but I may well throw one or two pairs of those long pants in the cart before I check out. I've come to accept that I'll always look at least a little stupid, so if it keeps me from getting cancer while at the same time keeping me from being miserable and sweating as much as I would otherwise, I can live with looking a little more stupid. 1 Quote
