Smalls Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 I saw someone post this on FB the other day, might fit the bill Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted June 7, 2021 Global Moderator Posted June 7, 2021 Y’all every tried blue jeans??? It’s a new pant, they are all the rage! Sure they are a little hot but you already own them, so there’s that! I wear them up on shingled roofs during summer, it can be done my definition of fishing pants: the ones I already have on. If for some reason I’m not wearing pants, grab some that are already dirty and go fishing 1 1 Quote

That's a fact! I had a talk with my doctor at the VA about this very thing about a month ago. Here's what I drink; coffee, about 5 cups of decaf with half & half throughout the day. I drink 2% milk, about a pint+ a day. On a HOT day I may drink a couple glasses of ice tea if I'm working outside but it's rare, once or twice a year. I don't drink pop, booze or sport drinks. I'm 73 now and been like that my whole life. Don't really like water but I will drink it if there is nothing else and I'm thirsty but that's rare too. Doc said I'm apparently getting what I need from what I drink. I think everyone is different. No way could slop down a gallon of water a day! Fact: Several people have died in the couple of years from drinking too much water. Fluid intake depends on how hot is, what you're doing in that heat factor and your own metabolism. I agree it's better to talk to your doctor than to depend on info from some random stranger on the internet. Quote

Yeah that’s a special set of skills you have, not sure I’ve seen anyone better . Even your tackle boxes are pre scented 1 Quote

The Lady dumping a bluegill in the tackle bag was pretty clutch, to be honest. I don't even need to use scents now, because everything in the bag smells like fish slime. 1 Quote

The weather surprised us and was 75-85 every day. I had jeans but I really didn’t want to wear them because I knew they would be hot. I had cargo shorts but I hadn’t really worn shorts yet this summer and really didn’t want to get a sunburn. There’s no way I was going to put sunscreen all over my legs either. Sooooo, I start going through all of the clothes I packed and there were sweat pants but I knew they would be way too hot, then I ran across a pair of under armour pants that were lightweight and had zipper pockets. I thought why not and gave them a try. Pretty nice, but then I realized that since I packed for more cold than summer, they were my long underwear. I fished for the last 2 days in them and they were comfortable.???? Just no dude NO! ? 2 Quote
Jaderose Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 Wearing tights while fishing would likely have the added bonus of having other fishermen stay away from you. I would..lol. I'm sure I basically look homeless when I fish. Usually an old ratty pair of cut offs and whatever t-shirt I am wearing. A ball cap, shades and "Jerusalem Cruisers" completes the ensemble. Slather up with good sunscreen and ready to roll. 1 Quote

Two times now I have over heated a tiny bit and was dehydrated. I know this because I barely pee. I could have jumped in the lake, but I had pants on. Got me thinking. What about those swim tights the long distance swimmers wear? Fashion is a distance, barely there concern. I could wear shorts over them. they are fully breathable, cool, spf-50….yada yada yada. I’ll ordered up some and report back. And I need to drink more often. Sorry I'm answering before reading all the other replies but I wear jeans. Somehow I got in the habit of fishing the middle of the day even in the heat. Jeans do not stop me from taking a dip...or even wading. Jeans are what I wear to wade then river. BTW beer hydrates, just not as well as water. I spent yesterday afternoon on the river and it was hot. I wore jeans, t-shirt and I had a light long sleeve shirt for sun protection. I skipped hauling the cooler but I had a jug of water. Numerous times I dipped my hat and shirt in the river. A wet shirt and hat does a lot to cool you off. In the summer I often park the boat and wade an area of the river to fish it. It makes for good fishing and fights the heat. I do it in jeans. 19 hours ago, fin said: Dehydration thickens your blood and raises your blood pressure. You're supposed to get 4 quarts/liters of water a day, which is probably more than most people actually get. I use a one-liter thermos and fill it with water several times a day to make it easier to keep up with whether I'm getting enough water. It's a lot easier than trying to count 16 cups a day. Room temperature water is much easier to drink than cold water. I can down a liter in a few minutes. I hate room temp water. At home I keep 2 gallons in the fridge. I usually have a cooler of ice in the boat...and cold drinks. Yesterday I wanted to travel light so I skipped the cooler and just brought a jug of water that was cold when I left home. It was not a good situation. The warm water was hard to choke down and left me still feeling thirsty...though...it apparently kept me hydrated because I'm alive and feeling fine. LOL 1 Quote
michaelb Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 I think tights would be hot and uncomfortable. I wear shorts but maybe look at the lightest travel pants you can find. Something like these https://www.railriders.com/men-bone-flats-pants-p-992.html?cPath=104_110 Quote

I hate warm water too. I can't take much of it, and you're right - it doesn't quench the same. I like it around 60-70 degrees - not cold, but not warm. In the summertime, a little colder is okay. My Yeti thermos keeps it at the same temp even after it's been sitting in the car for a few hours in the sun. I'm not trying to push Yeti, I never would have spent that much myself. I found mine, full of ice water someone left. It had been sitting there for at least overnight. Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted June 7, 2021 Author Super User Posted June 7, 2021 You guys are awesomely funny. Haha. first I’d would never wear tights as a stand alone pant. Let’s just say the waters cold and my junk…. Never mind. I heard the swim pants the marathon swimmers wear are very cool in the summer. I would put shorts over them. And jeans. I don’t own a single pair of jeans anymore. I wear prana Zion pants d**n near exclusively. Which is a very warm fishing pant. all the men on my dads side died of cancer. Zero 1st generation survivors. Dad, uncles, half of cousins…. I cover up. Doctors orders. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 7, 2021 Super User Posted June 7, 2021 So this is a topic I sort have debated for years with people but it started years ago when I was hiking and continued through my powerlifting years...... It was summer time....I was hiking a long trail in Land Between the Lakes and ran into a guy that noticed what I had on. I was wearing a cotton t shirt and a pair of longer jean shorts (80s stuff) and I had a large bottle of water. He told me I was not going to make it with the water I had and the clothing I had on. So I asked why.... He said that cotton suffocate my body and I will basically sweat myself to the point of dehydration despite having a big bottle of water. He told me the material has to fast drying and light polyester (this was before moisture wicking clothing) so basically running clothes. After about almost dying on this hike, I realized he was right. I hiked this same trail under worse conditions a few more times with the clothing he suggested, same water supply, and I was fine. I have followed is advice since. Moral of the story..... Don't wear cotton at all. Your sweat is designed to keep you cool and you should not be smothered by it. Drink water until your pee is clear looking (or near to it). 1 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted June 7, 2021 Super User Posted June 7, 2021 Everybody can relax, a quick trip to Cabelas and I’m back in lightweight fishing pants. No more fishing in my long Johns. Last ones were Offshore Angler, these are Red Head. Little heavier duty but still lightweight. I should be good for another 10 years.? Quote

I can't say the theory is wrong but I spent half my life shoeing horses and working a forge in the summer heat wearing nothing but cotton jeans and cotton t-shirts...and a leather apron. I'd literally leave a puddle on the ground where I bent over to work on a horses foot. The big disadvantage of the cotton for such work is that it starts on fire easily. Leather and wool are good but they may have something synthetic that's better now...not poly. Poly melts to your body and burns you badly. I guess I never owned any clothes special for fishing or hiking and made due. I'm still doing it. Quote
