Super User Tin Posted November 29, 2009 Super User Posted November 29, 2009 Cool to see...check out Skeet's epic failure... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qaz0MyPsHM Quote
Super User cart7t Posted November 29, 2009 Super User Posted November 29, 2009 That was at Rend lake in Illinois. I think they tried that fishing/boat race thing 3 times that season. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted November 30, 2009 Super User Posted November 30, 2009 That BS is why I am not a B.A.S.S. member now. After the first fishing tournament/race, I called them to cancel and get a refund on my membership, told them it was a bad idea, and a bad example for youngsters. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 30, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 30, 2009 That was something like 10 years ago (the Helen Sevier years), and reason why Ranger left B.A.S.S.. It also compelled Ray Scott to break up with B.A.S.S. too - and remain separated for years afterwards. Quote
I Love BassResource Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Rofl at Skeet, that was funny. If I was Ranger I would have left to. Sleds need not attempt to compete ;D Quote
Super User Tin Posted November 30, 2009 Author Super User Posted November 30, 2009 I didn't join B.A.S.S. until 2004 and had never even heard of this stuff. Figured it would interest some of the newer guys. Got to love Clunn steering with one hand. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted November 30, 2009 Super User Posted November 30, 2009 It was a bad decision (Among the many other bad choices that were made back then) to even attempt to put this out there. Rich kid in Daddy's boat..."Hold My Beer and Watch This", comes to my mind. If you are gonna race, race! If you're gonna fish, fish! Quote
Super User cart7t Posted November 30, 2009 Super User Posted November 30, 2009 IIRC, most of the pro's were against the deal. Brauer very much so. Some of the manufacturers made a big deal of it going so far as to build aero fairings for the boats to streamline them. What's so humorous is that area the course was set up in is the State park cove. Those buildings along the bank are the States Boatel, condo type buildings. You can dock right in front of your room. That whole cove is NO WAKE! ;D Quote
Super User 5bass Posted December 3, 2009 Super User Posted December 3, 2009 If I was Ranger I would have left to. Sleds need not attempt to compete ;D Agreed!! ;D Quote
Simp Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 I was watching the video and started cranking up when I realized it was one of my home lake. I agree it's a bad idea to have it factor in to the results but if would be great for the spectators to watch. Quote
The Rooster Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 When I watched it I thought it looked highly dangerous. There is a place for boat racing but I don't think it goes along with sport fishing. Combining those two I think sends an overall bad message to others that they DO go together and when they're out on the lake "fishing" then they'll try that themselves cause they saw a pro fisherman do it in a boat similar to their own. When you see speedboat racing those guys have helmets and race suits on in boats that are made for such things and have emergency crews standing by in case of accidents. They're not racing bass boats around in a side cove on a lake where it's normally a no wake zone (as one other person here stated was the case on this particular lake). I think this whole idea was a bad idea and should not have been put into the competition of professional fishing at all. I was also not previously aware that this was happening in B.A.S.S. If it's still going on then I think they need to drop the B. in the title and add an E.S. to the end of it. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted December 9, 2009 Super User Posted December 9, 2009 Kudos to Ranger for pulling out of BASS. They may be sleds, but that's one of the reasons we buy them. Quote
