Next came Chug Bug worked more like a Darter medium fast stop & go. Modified Pop-R’s by Zell Roland was a game changer for me. Splash-It worked like a panic Shad spitting water fast similar to a surface jerk bait is the real deal. Tom Do you find color choice (matching the bait fish) to be a big factor when working bass on a school of shad with a popper or other topwater? I have found I have better luck with a color that stands out. Quote

There is a video of Ruck Clunn on his YouTube channel explaining the evolution of the Pop R technique that he started using with Zell and Randy Fite and how he hooked up with lobina lures to create those baits. 1 Quote
Djenko Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Personally I like a popper near submerged or just any vegetation in general especially when it's cloudy in the early afternoon or near sunset. Quote

Guitarfish Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 I used to have every color PopR. Never caught a thing. Used to have every color RattleTrap. Never caught a fish. I am working on developing a package of lures that won't catch a thing, so you can just go fishing and relax. I just found a small box full of old wooden poppers that I was going to sell on EBay I guess, but now I'm going to save and try out. I've been assured Oregon fish are not as smart as California fish.
