I have an interest in learning the model of a Shimano spinning reel. I've never owned a Shimano but this one caught my eye. All I know it that it is somewhat expensive and its color is an iridescent that changes as it is turned. I don't know if it's even made anymore as it was several years ago that I saw it on eBay I was under the impression that they were highly popular at one time because the bidding was high for a used reel. Any information, good or bad about them is all so appreciated.

You can go to the Japan Tackle website and look at the spinning reel archives, that might give you the name. Brian.

It is gonna be tough to find a used reel that you not even know the name, especially you saw it on eBay where Shimanos all over the world listed there. What color was it, base and trim? You might better off with modern reel where a lot have improved, lighter, smoother, stronger and more protection.

OK ~ I finally found it after looking on line for an hour. I was the Quantum  Energy PT Spinning Reel (there were several variations and designations. They were made about 18-20 years ago and no longer sold. I found two used on on eBay that were beat to death, I'm talking rough and the bidding was over $150. Nice looking reel (when new) but I'll find something newer.

Thanks

So the Shimano reel you were looking for wasn't even a Shimano, lucky it turned out to be a reel I guess...

I have one I don’t use.  I’ll dig it out & pm you specifics if you’re interested.

I had a couple of these Quantum PT reels years ago.  They look good but my experience with them was pretty bad.  I had multiple issues that Quantum tried to fix, which includes sending me a new reel, but they were unsuccessful.   I hate to say it but they ended up in the trash.

My recommendation is if you want a Quantum, get a new one or the Shimano of your choice.  They all seem to be pretty good at their various price points.

Thanks but I thought it was a Shimano but it wasn't... No wonder I could not find it. Just lucked onto the photo.

If it’s that color that interests you, try looking at the Abu Garcia Ike reels. They have the same paint job.

Funny you should mention those... I did look at them and it's a nice looking reel, not crazy about the "flat"handle and I sure don't want Ik's name on "my" reel or anyone's name for that matter. But yeah, I like the looks of it other than that. I  think the price was $228.00

Yes, thanks. I like the color but I have all the baitcasters I need. I only use baitcasters to throw big baits like rats, bigger swimbaits and boot-tails. Prefer spinning for everything else.
