Fred Allen Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Couple months ago I put flouro line on my reel. 8 pound test field and stream brand line. It was great and I got tons of fish on it. Last time out it kept breaking off! I gave up on it and used other rod to fish. Seems like it got brittle or something. Does fluoro only last so long? I got Seaguar 10 pound on another spin reel I did the same time but it was not used to much and seems fine still. Is it bad to store flouro reels in the hot car? Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted June 3, 2021 Super User Posted June 3, 2021 I dunno who makes the F&S Flouro - but sounds like you should stay away from it. Stick with the Seaguar - even Red Label is better than a lot of other FC lines out there, and after my time on the water with Tatsu...it's worth the extra cost. Just wish I could afford the 3 more spools of it I want. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 3, 2021 Super User Posted June 3, 2021 I use Seaguar Red label. I change it yearly except for 6# it only seems to last a few months. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted June 3, 2021 Super User Posted June 3, 2021 Not all fc lines are equal. I’ve never had that happen with invisx or red label. Then again, I did tend to go through a lot of line (rip rap 100%) Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 4, 2021 Super User Posted June 4, 2021 What you are generally paying for when it come to FC is the coating and how long it lasts. I hate to say but for most FC you get what you pay for. 1 Quote

Super User dodgeguy Posted June 4, 2021 Super User Posted June 4, 2021 They are flouro coated mono. Not true flourocarbon lines. 2 Quote
Michigander Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 FC breaks down over time. I've heard that UV rays do it but don't know and don't care. I just know that it does Quote

I watched a video a while back (couldn't find it) and it explained the process but it used the words coated and fused. It looked like it was just one coating applied over and over again. Super User WRB Posted June 5, 2021 Super User Posted June 5, 2021 100%* Fluorocarbon line doesn’t degrade from normal heat or cold temps (0-140f), sunlight UV or Ozone elements. Hybrids made of co extruded FC jacket over mono core is subject to degradation. Fluorocarbon* line is heavier then water and sinks, mono floats. Fluorocarbon* line stretches under the same forces as mono but lacks elastic memory and stays stretched. Fluorocarbon* cold flows under pressure and time stress similar to mono but lower notch strength impacting knot strength. When using FC line and catching bass or snagging debris to time under pressure can impact FC strength more then mono line. Your FC line isn’t weakening from ages it’s use. Tom Quote

Super User Boomstick Posted June 5, 2021 Super User Posted June 5, 2021 I've had fluorocarbon line on reels for three seasons with no problems. 1 Quote
